About The Stanford Trading Store
The Stanford Trading Store (no.2 on the map) is the second oldest antique shop on the Stanford Antique Route.
The Stanford Trading Store is an extension of it’s owner, Artist, Cobus van Niekerk, in more ways the one. It is a physical extension of his Stanford home, which, from the 1920s to the 1990s, was in fact the local post office. It is also an extension of Cobus’s creative and arty personality. He studied art and the history of art, which, he explains, gives him his knowledge of antiques.
But Cobus is also known for his talent of creating a visual theater. He buys what he loves and usually keeps each item in his own home until he is ready to part with it. Then it will find its way into his shop for the next owner to love.
Cobus, like many South African baby boomers, still cherishes his memories of his Grandmother and all the happy times spent in her Karoo home in his youth. That nostalgia is reflected in so many things for which Cobus and his beautiful shop is famous. Decorators and architects come from far and wide to source the perfect piece from The Stanford Trading Store.
