A vision of a country-style relaxed bistro, with a menu of delicious, homely and rib-sticking comfort food has come to life at Cotage Fromage, along the wine route in Paarl. Patrons enjoy spilling out onto the large terrace to enjoy a chilled bottle of fine wine, while feasting on decadent breakfasts and unforgettable lunches.

With a view that overlooks the Rust and Vrede estate, visitors are spoilt with visions of beauty and gastronomic indulgence. The deli bakes fresh bread daily, while stocking an impressive selection of local and imported cheeses, charcuterie, olives, oils and preserves. The breakfast menu comprises of the English Breakfast with the works, through to Eggs Benedict, served atop an English muffin, with crispy pancetta, wilted spinach and citrus Hollandaise.

Mushrooms are truffled and served on brioche and Bloody Mary’s are served for good measure. For lunch, the starter highlights are the Caesar salad, served with a soft poached duck egg; the Lightly Smoked Salmon Trout and the Chilli-salted Squid, served with pepper salad and spearmint yoghurt. Mains include lighter quiche and salad dishes, while the hungrier will appreciate the Grilled 250g Rump, the Crispy smoked pork belly (with chourico, avo, bone marrow and tomato chilli compote) or the Harissa Lamb, cooked to perfection.

Cotage Fromage also serve an award-winning cheese platter, with several different cheeses, homemade preserves, olives and freshly baked breads, while the Charcuterie Platter invited once to taste their duck liver parfait, as well as cured meats, pickles and bread. If your sweet tooth is acting up, we couldn’t think of anything more delicious to satiate those cravings with than the Amarula Panna Cotta, or the Blueberry Pie, served with Pinotage ice-cream.
