There are few better ways to experience the Oribi Gorge than by soaring overhead with all of the freedom of a bird and an added touch of sheer adrenalin. The Lake Eland Game Reserve boasts an exhilarating collection of ziplines that, when combined, total 4.5 kilometres in length, making this the longest zipline tour on the African continent.

Starting at the top of the Oribi Gorge, there are 14 separate ziplines (cables from which you hang in a safety harness). The longest of the lines is 680 metres; and it dangles 300 metres above the ground. This promises breath-taking views that are nothing short of spectacular. The lowest of the lines has its passenger gliding just above the water, while the last line takes you through a tunnel and across a river. This is an adventure like no other.

The tour takes between one and 2.5 hours and is available to anyone between the ages of five and 70 years.

The Zip eXtreme is exclusively for adult adrenalin junkies. This slide is a kilometre long and plummets straight down, reaching a stomach-churning speed of 160 kilometres per hour. After that, there are two more slides to get the adventurer back to a collection point. This is not for the faint-hearted.

An added bonus is that the zipline tour rates include entrance into the Lake Eland Game Reserve. Other activities and attractions (over and above the awesome game drives through the park) include horse riding, paintball, fishing, mountain biking, walking, and crossing the suspension bridge for unrivalled views.

There is a restaurant and tea garden on site. Hungry zipliners should definitely try the giant burgers for size. There is an indoor dining area, as well as a gorgeous outdoor one that showcases the loveliness of the gorge off to perfection, best enjoyed while sipping on a hot cuppa or a cool refreshing juice.

The Oribi Gorge Game Reserve is just over 100 kilometres from Durban.
