About Louvain Old Voortrekker Pass 4x4 Trail

The point-to-point Louvain Old Voortrekker Pass 4x4 Trail is not a guided route and is open throughout the year. However, part of the trail is in a state forestry so you will need to obtain a permit before you head out.

This 30km route with a difficulty grading of 2 to 3 will take between 2 and 3 hours to complete and you’ll encounter rocky inclines and indigenous forest. This is an old ox-wagon route which dates back to 1776 when it was used as a trade route between the Langkloof Valley and coast.

On the route you’ll have beautiful views of the surrounding area's lakes as well as the Indian ocean. The route ends at the Bergplaas Forestry station on the road between George and Knysna.
