Vhupo Tours is an accredited South African tour operator, specialising in township tours (Soweto Tours), cultural tours, natural heritage tours (safaris), historical tours, trips to Sun City, township accommodation, local transfers and much more.

Vhupo Tours has been in operation since 1994 and offers both tourists and South Africans a reliable, safe, personal and professional service. There is no better way of experiencing the wonderful sights and cultures of our country than by doing so first-hand, with an experienced and knowledgeable guide to ensure you get maximum enjoyment out of your brief trip.

Vhupo Tours is operated by tourism professionals from the previously disadvantaged communities of South Africa. Vhupo Tours is run from the very heart of South Africa's cultural melting pot: Orlando West in Soweto, making Soweto our specialty! Our tour guides have an in-depth knowledge of the local history, culture and tourist attractions, ensuring you get to enjoy a top-quality, first-hand experience on your visit!

ABOUT VHUPO TOURS

Vhupo Tours was started by David Luthaga in 1994, the year of South Africa's first democratic elections, and the year in which Nelson Mandela became the first black president of our proud and beautiful country. David has lived in Soweto for most of his life, and is intimately aware of the history, the culture, the vibrant township lifestyle, and everything else that the largest of South Africa's townships has to offer.

David still lives in the same house in which he was born, which is now converted to a Bed & Breakfast, called Vhavenda Hills BnB. It is situated in Orlando West, a suburb of Soweto that was referred to as "the Wild West" during the apartheid days. Several prominent leaders of the anti-apartheid movement lived in the same area, and although times have now changed and the area has become much more peaceful, the stories from The Struggle live on through the recollections of local residents in the local shebeens and restaurants.

Vhupo Tours started out as a tourism transportation company, but quickly evolved into a fully fledged tour operator. The company has grown quickly due to David's passion for providing a top-quality, professional service to his guests and making sure they get maximum enjoyment from the experience in South Africa.

Catherine manages and runs the Vhavenda Hills Bed & Breakfast, offering accommodation in the heart of the township that is safe, centrally located, always welcoming and completely enjoyable.

As a member of one of South Africa's previously disadvantaged communities, David is now making the most of the new opportunities that are available to him. As Soweto continues to grow as a tourist destination for both foreigners and (South African) locals alike, David, Catherine and the rest of the Vhupo Tours team hope to be at the forefront of the Soweto tourism industry.

Vhupo Tours offers a full-service package to our guests:

We cater for both groups and individuals. Our tours include collecting you from and returning you to your hotel or accommodation in Johannesburg. Accommodation is available in our own professionally-run Bed and Breakfast in Soweto - offering you the complete township experience; In addition to our available tours (such as the popular Soweto Tours), if you have any specific requests or ideas for your tour, we will gladly do our best to customise a tour to suit your specific requirements. Airport transfers to or from your hotel can also be arranged.

Our tours are conducted in English, but some other languages can be catered for - please enquire. Vhupo Tours has passenger liability cover - however, we strongly recommend that tourists take out sufficient insurance to cover personal accidents, loss of baggage, etc. Tour prices exclude drinks and refreshments, unspecified meals, telephone calls, other items of personal nature, gratuities and portage.
