To extend the fuzzy feeling of Valentine’s Day, the little village of Rosendal comes alive with the Love Rosendal Festival. This year, it will take place in February (EXACT DATES TO BE CONFIRMED!).

Rosendal, situated in the eastern part of the South African province of the Free State, has earned acclaim for the hospitality that it shows to the many visitors that attend this celebration of love, romance and a smattering of all things sexy. Of course, the prettiness of the surroundings only makes this festival even more special.

The Love Rosendal Festival showcases the idyllic surrounds, as well as the creativity and innovation of the people. Of course, a festival would not be fun without awesome food to boot, and this event is no exception. The many stalls will be complemented by live performances, mini workshops, sports events, entertainment and a Valentine’s parade that stretches between the common and the Waya Waya Tavern. This will include costumed horse riders, puppets, jugglers and plenty more. Gumboot dancing, drum majorettes from the Mautse Secondary School and a trash band performance will keep the feet stomping and the fun flowing.

Shopaholics will love browsing the many stalls and outlets, collecting keepsakes and gifts. Comedy shows and musical performances will keep young and old alike occupied (although some have adult content and are not suitable for little ones). There is also plenty to see and do for children, including a workshop on costume making. Round off the days with a bonfire on the common or a traditional township braai at the shebeen.
