Klein Bosheuwel is within a two minute walk of the world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the slopes of Table Mountain. Lovers of nature would be hard pressed to find a better place from which to explore the beauty of South Africa’s natural flora. The Constantia Valley, one of the historical and cultural hearts of the metropolitan area of Cape Town, and famous for centuries of fine wine making, spreads out below the gardens of ‘Klein Bosheuwel’. Wilderness areas, farms, forests, riverine corridors and scenic routes abound. The front garden still has remnants of the hedge of Wild Almond planted by Van Riebeeck during his Governorship in order to define the boundary of the Cape Colony. Later, during the Anglo Boer War, the British had their horses stabled where Klein Bosheuwel stands today. The two and a half acres of garden, with towering old Oaks, Cinnamon Camphors, Chestnut, Plane, and Silver Trees, provides tranquil shady refuges during the hot summer days. At each end of the property there are salt water swimming pools surrounded by lawns. Rose gardens, indigenous proteas, restios and South African Aloes, blend together along the interesting paths. AccommodationThe house is for the exclusive use of guests, the owners live in a cottage on the property. Bedrooms are well appointed with en-suite facilities, under floor heating, hairdryers, heated towel rails and fine cotton bed linen. Large airy sitting rooms, furnished with traditional old South African pieces, and libraries packed with interesting books, welcome visitors. The GardensThe boundary hedges are home to a variety of bird species and the secretive Burchell's Coucal can often be heard skulking in the abundant undergrowth, its call reminiscent if a bubbling brook. Locals refer to it as the Rain Bird and believe that its call predicts damp weather. Cape White Eyes and Sun Birds festoon the Cape Fuchsia trees as they greedily drink the sweet nectar from the tubular flowers or munch away at the dark berries. AttractionsThe nearest beach is the picturesque fishing village of Hout Bay which is a fifteen minute drive away. Cape Town and the Waterfront are a twenty minute drive. Golf Courses, tennis, bowls and fitness clubs are nearby. Not only has Constantia always been famous for its wines, there are some excellent eateries and one on a local wine estate has been voted the top Restaurant in South Africa. ACCREDITATIONS
