DESCRIPTION:

Vrede en Lust offers cellar tours, fine wines, function facilities, exclusive Cape Winelands accommodation and light meals, a lively atmosphere and magnificent setting. Whatever the purpose of your visit to Vrede en Lust, you are bound to leave inspired.

Nestled beneath the Simonsberg mountain range and guarding the entrance to the Franschhoek valley, you will find Vrede en Lust. Derived from the Dutch 'Peace and Eagerness', the farm was established by French Huguenot Jacques de Savoye in 1688. The historic farm buildings have been restored with respect to their Cape Dutch origins and all new buildings have been carefully designed to harmonise with the existing environment.

Vrede en Lust offers cellar tours, fine wines, function facilities, exclusive accommodation and light meals, a lively atmosphere and magnificent setting. Whatever the purpose of your visit to Vrede en Lust, you are bound to leave inspired.

Accommodation

Vrede en Lust offers exclusive accommodation to discerning guests, searching for a unique and private Cape wine estate experience. Choose between the freedom of our self-catering lodges or the luxury of the Manor House. Leaving will not be easy!

Vineyards

Old vines and fruit trees have been replaced with noble cultivars appropriate for the Simonsberg-Paarl terroir. Forty two hectares are currently under environmentally friendly, premium grape production. The vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz, with smaller blocks of Malbec and Petit Verdot. A single vineyard, limited release Chardonnay is produced from the tiny block of Chardonnay vines next to the winery. The vineyards cover a wide range of different soils and aspects which enhances the complexity of the wines.

Wines

The Vrede en Lust philosophy is that a single varietal wine rarely matches the complexity and harmony of the appropriate blend. Our dry Rosé, made in the Bordeaux style, is very popular and part of the red blend range that includes traditional Bordeaux style blends as well as blends including Shiraz. A 'Cape' blend containing Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz was made for the first time in 2003. The 2004 vintage introduces a Chenin-Blanc and a botrytis derived desert wine.
Open daily from 10am - 4pm.

Restaurant & Deli

Cotage Fromage, the landmark thatched cottage at the entrance to Vrede en Lust, provides a casual and welcoming atmosphere where guests may dine. Local and specialty cheeses, freshly baked bread and deli products are but a few of the delicacies that one can enjoy by fireside in winter or under the oaks in summer. Local wines have been specially selected to accompany the meals.
Open daily from 9am - 6pm.
