DESCRIPTION:
Tides River Lodge lies on the banks of the Breede River near Malgas, in the Cape. A short two and a half hour trip from Cape Town and half an hour from Swellendam, on the way to the Garden Route. Privately owned, this peaceful heaven is a birdwatcher’s and fisherman’s dream.
For the more energetic there is a private jetty and slipway to launch your own boat for river cruises, fishing expeditions or water-sports. Hold a great party that everyone will remember for years, right on the river. Our riverside boma is delightful for braais and dancing. Champagne sunset cruises can be arranged.
Accommodation
We create a relaxed informal atmosphere. The lodge offers self catering packages and catering for an event of more than 15 guests. Swimming is safe for children with a wide shallow ban in the river and a deeper channel for adults.
Zebra Lodge:
This luxurious thatched, fully equipped double volume lodge has three double bedrooms, with private balconies for early morning tea. Bedrooms have Queen size beds with 100% cotton linen. One bedroom has three single beds. All three bathrooms have showers, baths, bidets and two are en-suite. The large lounge with fireplace, private outside eating area and braai make this lodge ideal for a small group.
Cob Cottage:
This delightful fully equipped thatched cottage right on the waters edge has four double bedrooms, three leading onto river view balconies. Two Bedrooms have Queen size beds and two has twin beds with 100% cotton linen. There are 3 bathrooms two en-suite. The open plan dining and kitchen area has a log fireplace for easy winter getaways. The leafy, shaded outside seating area make this cottage ideal for viewing river activities and birds.
Heron House: Heron House has three large, bright, sunny bedrooms with a Queen size bed and two additional single beds. Heron House is spacious with an open plan lounge, fireplace, fully equipped kitchen. The main bedroom is en-suite and there are two further bathrooms with baths and showers. All downstairs rooms open onto a veranda which has lovely river views.
Boat House:
This cosy thatched loft unit is right on the water’s edge, with a lovely wooden deck with braai overlooking the river and garden. It has an en-suite bathroom and a kitchenette. Ideal for bird watching. Sleeps 3.
Conferences:
Tides is an ideal venue for groups to learn, build or hold workshops in a tranquil environment. Our separate conference centre venue will accommodate 25 people.
Activities
River Rafting:
The Breede is famous for Fiver Rafting which can be done with a trained guide from Felix Unite.
Water skiing:
Water-skiing, wakeboarding and tubing can all be done with own boats
Fishing:
The Breede River is recognised as one of the best fishing estuaries in South Africa. Tidal action reaches 60km upstream supporting a rich diversity of fish and bird life. Fishing can be enjoyed year round in the waters of San Sebastian Bay and the Breede River Estuary.
Bay and Inshore Game Fishing:
One can expect to catch Kabeljou (Cob), Cape Salmon (Geelbek), White and Red Stump nose, Roman, Spotted Grunter, Steen bras, Leervis, Shad and Barbell. Shards and Skates are also often hooked.
Whales & Dolphins:
Whales and dolphins also often join you on your fishing expeditions.
Bird watching:
The abundance of fish attracts a large diversity of birds such as the majestic Fish Eagle, the Osprey, Fish Owl, Kingfisher, Oyster Catcher, Blue Crane, Flamingos and may more. The Breede River is a bird watchers paradise. |
