All the rooms are situated in a beautiful landscaped garden where you will enjoy the wide range of birds, trees, fruit and flowers. On warm summer days, the large sparkling swimming pool is a refreshment not to be missed. For lunch or dinner you can stroll to the terrace of Restaurant The Old Mill' next door to enjoy their good country food. Other excellent restaurants and shops are nearby. AccommodationIn the garden, separate from the main house, are four rooms. Another two garden-rooms are situated on the position of the former coach-house - die waenhuis'. The accommodation is surrounded by yellowwood trees, fruit trees and palms. All rooms have a private entrance and an own veranda overlooking the beautiful garden. You will enjoy the friendly environment and the variety of colourful South African plants and birds. The guest rooms have an elegant atmosphere with natural lines and colours, and modern fixtures. Each room is decorated with an eye for detail. BreakfastA generous breakfast is served outside on the veranda of the Guest House, or indoors near the fireplace on that few cold winter mornings. Swellendam is one of the oldest towns of South Africa and has much to offer to visitors: charming historical buildings, the famous open-air Drostdy Museum, a beautiful golf course, excellent restaurants, shops and art-and-craft projects are just a few examples. On the fringe of the town, you will find the Bontebok National Park and the Marloth Nature Reserve; nature parks that provide various possibilities for hiking, horse riding, and bird watching. There is an endless selection of activities and day trips to choose from. A visit to the De Hoop Nature Reserve to see the whales, or a drive to the southernmost point of the continent in Cape Agulhas. Canoeing on the Breede River, or a day trip through the Little Karoo with its charming rural villages. A wine tasting trip through the towns of Robertson, Bonnievale and Ashton is also recommended: flower fringed roads, spectacular vineyards and world-class wines. This Robertson Wine Route represents about 50 wineries - from small family owned boutique wineries to medium state-of-the-art estates and large modern wineries. DIRECTIONS: From the N2 Take the turnoff Swellendam West/Ashton, Worcester R60. After almost one kilometre, you arrive at a four-way stop where you turn right - into the Voortrek Street of Swellendam. Our Guesthouse is the third house on your left. From the R62 On the road between the towns of Ashton and Montagu, you take the turnoff to Swellendam. After half an hour / three quarters of an hour, you will arrive at a four way stop where you turn left into the Voortrek Street of Swellendam. Swellendam Country Lodge is the third property on your left, next to restaurant 'The Old Mill'. |
