This holiday house, built in 1928, has original sash windows with wooden shutters and beautiful Oregon pine floors. Stonehurst is beautifully decorated, with an eclectic mix of old and new. Judy and Peter have travelled extensively and this is evident from some of the interesting items from the Middle East. Stonehurst is nestled into the base of the mountain, a 1-minute walk from sea, with wonderful views and peace and tranquility away from the noise of traffic and trains. Stonehurst is 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport and 25 minutes from the Cape Town city bowl and V&A Waterfront. AccommodationStonehurst sleeps a maximum of 8 guests and has 3 bedrooms upstairs (large main bedroom with stunning view of False Bay, queen-size bed, en-suite bathroom and fireplace; 2 bedrooms each with 2 single beds, bathroom and shower room) and 1 bedroom downstairs (exceptionally large bedroom with wonderful sea views, queen-size bed, en-suite bathroom and dressing room). All the beds have crisp white linen and feather duvets. A large country kitchen is well appointed with microwave, oven, hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher. Off the back courtyard there is a laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer. A braai and ten seater wooden table and umbrella make the back courtyard ideal for casual dining. Inside there is a separate eight seater dining room off the beautifully decorated lounge which offers great sea views and DSTV. • Off street parking for 2 cars. • Stonehurst is a non-smoking establishment. • Good children are welcome. Attractions & ActivitiesDuring the whale season, you can see and hear the whales from the house, often breaching in the late afternoon sunlight. Take a stroll down to the famous St James tidal pool with its iconic Victorian bathing houses, and have an early morning dip with the many local residents who start their day at this beautiful spot. There is a concrete walkway from the pool all along the water’s edge to Muizenberg where you can swim, surf (or learn to surf) and walk on one of the most beautiful Cape Town beaches. Rhodes Cottage Museum is typical of the historical importance of the St James area. A short walk in the other direction puts you in Kalk Bay with its art galleries, unusual decorating and fashion shops, and a wide selection of excellent restaurants. Kalk Bay has a picture perfect harbour where you can watch the traditional fishing boats unloading their catch of the day. For the more energetic there are a number of walks up the mountain that start close to Stonehurst. Danger Beach is 5 minutes walk from the St James tidal pool towards Kalk Bay for those wanting some wave action. |
