DESCRIPTION:

Our cottage dates from the early 1800's and was recently fully restored and upgraded. It is in our private game reserve at Oude Denneboom, which is a working farm in the Voor-Paardeberg wine region where we grow wine grapes, olives, citrus and wheat. We are very proud of what we can offer and you will experience a very special tranquil atmosphere in beautiful surroundings.

At night you will be able to see the stars without any light pollution and it will be wonderfully quiet, except perhaps for the occasional hooting of your closest neighbour, a pair of barn owls whose nest is just outside the main bedroom. The cottage is in the veld and therefore very private, while it's surrounded by large trees.

Accommodation

We offer you modern four star amenities with the charm of reed ceilings, wooden shutters and an authentic olde world atmosphere. Our cottage is self-catering and you only have to bring your own food and drinks. We can, however, also arrange for that if indicated at the time of booking. We provide bedding, towels, crockery, utensils, firewood and even firelighters.

We have two bedrooms in the cottage: The larger one with a double bed and a fully equipped bathroom with bath and a large shower for two. The smaller bedroom has two single beds with its own shower and other facilities. There's a fully equipped kitchen with granite work surfaces, fridge with a freezer compartment, oven and stove combination, microwave and dishwasher. The living area has a large traditional fireplace and barbecue (braai) facilities, while there are also braai facilities outside if you want to enjoy the outdoors. We service the cottage every day except on Sundays.

Animal & Bird Life

We have an abundance of animal- and bird life. Apart from the larger species such as Bontebok, Eland, Springbok, Gemsbok, Wildebeest and Zebra, there are lots of smaller animals such as a colony of wild porcupines, several types of mongoose, small antelope and silver fox. Due to our large dam it is also a bird watcher's paradise with numerous different bird species, especially waterfowl. You may also be lucky enough to hear the cry of the fish eagle and see the beautiful blue crane.

Location

The private game reserve is on the farm Oude Denneboom in the Voor-Paardeberg wine ward, which lies between Paarl and Malmesbury. It is 15 km from Paarl where you will find a number of excellent restaurants and shops. The farm is also 40 km from Stellenbosch and 70 km from the Cape Town International Airport.

Attractions & Activities

Possibly the best thing about a cottage in the veld is that you don't have to do anything. However, there's ample opportunity if you want to do some of the following:

• Watching wildlife
• Fishing for blue kurper
• Hiking on the reserve and the farm
• Rowing on the dam
• Join the workers and work on the farm
• Riding your mountain bike
• Tasting the wines of Voor-Paardeberg
• Photography
• Doing the Paarl Wine Route
• Watch the stars
• Exploring the historical town of Paarl and its excellent restaurants

You can also join the rest of our employees and help with the farm work, and we're sure that your newfound appreciation and improved knowledge will be ample reward for your efforts.

Pets

Although we love dogs and cats we cannot, unfortunately, accommodate them as they may upset our wildlife. You are, however, welcome to bring your birds or pet fish to enjoy the outdoors with you.
