DESCRIPTION:

On the slopes of Stellenbosch Mountain, Hazelwood House is situated in a peaceful, safe and leafy residential area yet only 3 minutes' drive (or a 10 minutes' stroll) from the centre of historic Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa.

Hazelwood House overlooks mountains, parkland, close to vineyards and fields, ensuring an abundance of birdlife, including guinea fowl, hadeda, hoopoe and starlings frequently seen at the birdbaths in our garden.

Accommodation

Hazelwood House has a total of 6 bedrooms. All the rooms are named after South African birds and the individual décor reflects the colour of the appropriate birds.

In the main house there are three bedrooms. Lovebirds is our luxury room or honeymoon suite and is very spacious indeed. The en-suite bathroom has a large oval bath, large shower, separate W.C. and the room has large sliding doors leading to its own lapa and patio overlooking the pool. Two further rooms are available, Kingfisher and Bee Eater, both with en-suite facilities and individual patios.

The cottage named Leorie attached to the house is totally self-contained and has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large sitting / dining room, kitchen, private parking and entrance and large patio and braai area leading to the garden and pool. Since the sitting room is so spacious we are happy to add a further single bed should 5 people wish to stay.

Roller is a large studio next to the cottage with a double bed (or twin beds), sofa, dining table, kitchen, bathroom with bath and separate shower, own entrance and parking, and patio onto the garden and pool.

The cottage and the studio can be booked on a bed and breakfast or self catering basis.

Facilities

All rooms have fine linen on comfortable beds, well stocked fridges with fresh milk, wine, water etc., tea/coffee making facilities, TV with M-Net, fans in summer and heaters and electric blankets in winter, safes and hairdryers, fresh flowers and a complimentary glass of local port and cookies.

Of course all rooms have daily room service, including rooms taken on a self-catering basis. Off road parking is also available to all rooms.

We do allow limited smoking, preferably on the individual patios and children over the age of 12 are welcome though we do not give any reductions. Our extensive lush, tropical gardens are a great pride to our gardener, Ayanda and we have an 'enormous' salt water pool where 'real' swimming is the normal.

Service

Jane and Peter Spender have previously run a very successful bed and breakfast establishment in the U.K. for several years before moving to South Africa so know from experience the importance of attention to detail to ensure all guests have an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

We have our well known (to the many guests who return year after year) 'green book' in each room, giving details of wine yards, golf courses, restaurants for lunch and dinner, tours, recommended day itineraries around the area, church services etc. etc. which we obviously update frequently.
