Grootvlei Guest Farm is situated 6km from the charming fishing village of Lambert’s Bay with its moderate climate all year round. It is within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean with its long, uninterrupted white beaches. During the flower season from July to early October each year, the area is covered with a tapestry of wild flowers. Conservation of the dune vegetation has seen the return of small game and you will notice their footprints around the buildings. You may even spot a duikertjie or other buck on an early morning walk. Birdwatchers will have a field day spotting a large variety of birds, and if you are lucky, you may see Heaviside’s dolphins, whales and seals frolicking in the blue water a short distance from the beach. AccommodationThe Grootvlei Guest House (Tourism Grading Council 4 stars) has 7 stylishly decorated bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom (shower facilities). Each room is equipped with MNet, satellite TV and coffee/tea making facilities. The guest house has a communal dining room, lovely lounge area, a braai or conference room, various outside patios and a covered braai. The guest house offers accommodation for 14 guests. BreakfastBreakfast is served inside or on the terrace. Weddings and ConferencesGrootvlei Guest Farm offers two unique venues, both having become sought after venues for weddings, conferences, corporate events and private parties on the West Coast. The seating in these venues ranges from 45 to 250 guests. Innituin, which means “in the garden” and is situated next to the Grootvlei Guest House B & B, is a large venue covered with a freeform tent roof, giving it a light and airy ambience. It is well-suited for bigger weddings, conferences and musical performances. The venue is set in a large garden with an abundance of indigenous flowers, expansive lawns and water features, attracting lots of birds. Inside the venue there are also water features that create a sense of peace and tranquility. This versatile venue is a sophisticated, yet rustic facility that can accommodate up to 250 guests for your extraordinary and special wedding day. The Oppiduin Lapa, which means “on the dune”, is situated on a low sand dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean (right next to the Grootvlei on the Dunes) and is suitable for informal entertaining. It is the perfect venue for smaller weddings, and comes with a unique pulpit and rustic furniture. Grootvlei has become a popular destination for conferences. An internet-enabled PC, photocopy machine, scanner, fax machine and data projector are available. The guest house on the farm and the shell cottages on the dune can sleep 22 people. Various catering options can be arranged and bar facilities are available on the premises. The venues on Grootvlei Guest Farm offer the ideal setting for birthday celebrations and family get-togethers. Guests can listen to the sound of the waves while feasting on West Coast specialities such as crayfish and other offerings from the ocean. Attractions and ActivitiesWith fishing, hiking, bird watching and swimming on the property and 4x4 routes, plus boat trips and game drives in the near vicinity, there is ample opportunity for relaxing or winding down after a long conference. Grootvlei On The Dunes B&BThe Grootvlei on the Dunes is a cluster of sea shell-encrusted rooms, also referred to as “skulphuisies” (shell houses) and consists of one honeymoon suite and three double rooms. DIRECTIONS: From the N7 (about 280km) • Take the N7 from Cape Town, passing the towns of Moorreesburg and Piketberg • About 57 km from Citrusdal, turn right towards Clanwilliam • Turn left at the T-junction and continue on the R364 for about 60 km to reach Lamberts Bay • Take the gravel road from Lamberts Bay to Elandsbaai and continue for about 6 km till you find Grootvlei Guest Farm on your left From the R27 (about 260km) • Take the R27 from Cape Town, passing the towns of Langebaan, Velddrif, Dwarskersbos and Elandsbaai • Once in Elandsbaai, take the gravel road towards Lamberts Bay and continue for about 10 km till you find Grootvlei Guest Farm on your right |
