Lola and Rick have done a fantastic job of converting the original stables into bedrooms with historical green stable doors opening onto an ivy fringed courtyard. The Bartlett children are actors and their photos are plastered across the drawing room and bar. This is the heart of The Stables. A congenial snug of heavy armchairs, low beams and earth red walls where guests are encouraged to tap into a well stocked bar. Breakfasts are served in the dining room, where fresh fruit salad, plus home grown peaches, guavas and quince, ham, salami, a giant cheese board, yogurts, cereals and croissants are served, and thats before you even think about the cooked delights. AccommodationThe Stables has a genuine family feel that is immediately relaxing and when you are suitably chilled there is a whole bunch of restaurants and vineyards to explore, just next door. The 7 rooms all have private entrances, are en-suite and individually furnished in Cape Homestead character. All have tea / coffee trays, bar fridges, hairdryer, ceiling fans, telephone, free wireless internet access, satellite TV, beach towels and bath robes. The Garden Suite overlooks the pool, garden and mountains and, like Lily's Cottage, seamlessly blends into a mass of plants spread out beneath 2 enormous Plane trees. The Tree House Studio is a recent addition with a sundeck that overlooks the vineyards and the Constantiaberg Mountains. The studio is furnished in a modern style with a king bed and fully fitted kitchenette. DIRECTIONS: Follow the M3 (not the M5) towards Muizenberg. Take the Ladies Mile turn off-ramp. Turn left a the traffic lights onto Ladies Mile Road and left at the next set of traffic lights onto the M42 (Spaanschemat River Road) keep left at the fork and then turn left into Willow Road and then immediatly left again into Chantecler Lane. The Stables is at the end on the left number 8. Drive up the driveway to the front of the house. |
