De Kelders / Gansbaai

Gansbaai is on the Cape South Coast, 160km from Cape Town, and just 40km from Hermanus. The wild, beautiful ocean of this area offers a unique eco-experience – this is truly the Kruger National Park of marine tourist attractions in South Africa! Experience an ocean safari like no other, with Great White Sharks, a variety of whales, Cape fur Seals, dolphins, and extensive bird and fish populations.

The magnificent, unspoilt coastline of De Kelders, just outside Gansbaai is one of the best vantagepoints in the world for land-based whale watching. The southern right whales visit our shores each year between June and December to mate and calve. You will be able to see and hear these magnificent creatures from Cliff Lodge. You can also enjoy a 2-hour boat trip to come up close and personal with a southern right in its natural habitat - a truly exhilarating experience.

Shark-cage Diving

Gansbaai has earned the title ‘White Shark Capital of the World’ through its large white shark population and jaw-dropping shark encounters. White sharks can reach up to 6m in these waters, and patrol the area hunting Cape fur seals, large fish and other sharks. Teams of experienced shark handlers are on hand to take shark enthusiasts on the trip of a lifetime to encounter these awesome creatures.

As well as being the best place in the country to experience the ultimate sea safari, Gansbaai and the surrounding area has magnificent fynbos (wild flowers), abundant bird life and perfect white beaches.

Cliff Lodge is the ideal getaway to just unwind and relax beside the pool, take in the awesome views from the deck, or treat yourself to a variety of massage therapies.
