Hermanus is built along the shores of Walker Bay near the Southern most tip of Africa. Magnificent mountains watch over the town which is home of the Southern Right Whale. Nature lovers from all over the world visit Hermanus to view these magnificent creatures from the best land based whale watching destination in the world. ActivitiesHermanus offers the best land based whale watching in the world. About 150 whales visit Hermanus between July and December every year and come to within 10 meters of the shore. An adult whale can be up to 15.5 meters long and weigh up to 60 tons. DIRECTIONS: From the Waterfront in Cape Town follow the N2 to Somerset West. Follow N2 directions to George / Mosselbay over 2 mountain passes i.e. Sir Lowry’s Pass and Houwhoek Pass. After the second pass, turn off left onto R43 to Kleinmond /Hermanus. You will pass suburbs called: Fisherhaven, Hawston, Vermont, Onrus River and Sandbaai before reaching Hermanus. Follow this road into Hermanus. You are now on Main Road. The road turns 90 degrees to the left; you are still in Main Road. Follow this road over a 4-way stop street, with the Marine Hotel on your right and carry on for about 2km. Abalone Guest Lodge, is on your right hand side, 306 Main Road The name is well marked on the wall outside in turquoise. |
