About Wonderlings B&B
Wonderlings B&B is a well-established landmark on the eastern edge of False Bay, picturesquely poised between the sea and the mountains and overlooking the quiet village of Rooi Els.
Rooi Els stands at the gateway to the Overberg region, just 45 minutes from Cape Town International airport, and is reached along a winding, coast-hugging road of immense beauty that forms part of the Whale Route. The village itself lies within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, which celebrates and conserves the unique magnificence of the Cape Floral Kingdom.
Your hosts, Jenny and Koos, will welcome you to their modern, north-facing, architect-designed home. A private entrance and sweeping staircase lead up to two luxury guest suites, bathed in sunshine.
Careful lighting, original artworks and Persian carpets are part of the tasteful interior, while skylights, picture windows, sliding glass doors and balconies maximize the natural light and exterior views of False Bay, the surrounding mountains and Koos’s fynbos garden. Satellite TV is provided for those who can tear themselves away from the stunning views.
Private, spacious and luxurious! An open-plan, fully-equipped kitchen and lounge lead onto a small balcony. The large bedroom has a king size (or twin) bed and en suite bathroom with bath and shower attachment, as well as heated towel rail. Jenny’s attention to the smallest detail is intended to make your stay a memorable one of pampered comfort in a beautiful setting. Ideal for a romantic getaway.
This suite provides bedsitter-type accommodation in a spacious bedroom-cum-lounge, with double bed, couch and easy chairs, leading onto a large, sheltered balcony with built-in braai. A perfect place to sit and marvel at the beauty around you. An en suite shower with vanity unit and heated towel rail, as well as a fully-equipped kitchenette, complete this luxury penthouse perch.
Wonderlings is run primarily as a Bed and Breakfast, although a self-catering option is available for longer stays. No need to dress for breakfast, though, as our signature full breakfast is packed into baskets and delivered to your suite. If you prefer to eat with the family you are welcome to join us, as do many of our single, and returning guests.
You may prepare lunch or dinner in your private kitchen or braai on your balcony. Alternatively, eat at the local pub or a choice of nearby restaurants.
RooiEls is a registered Conservancy. Fences are discouraged and so, as a visitor, you’ll share your life with a variety of creatures including otters, baboons, small antelope, hyrax and the Cape grey mongoose, not to mention 160 species of birds.
We have no streetlights, so nightlife consists of gazing at millions of stars crowded into an unpolluted sky. The sea is rich in fish, and flocks of birds following them are common. Dolphins and whales are often seen.
Slightly more energetic activities include swimming, diving, birding, cycling, climbing and hiking with numerous marked trails in the area. The Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve boasts 1300 plant species, 77 of which occur nowhere else in the world and the Harold Porter Botanical gardens are well worth a visit, as is a visit to the Stony Point penguin colony.
There are splendid drives in the area, including various wine routes. Sports lovers can also be indulged, since facilities for tennis, bowls and jukskei are nearby and there are five spectacular golf courses within a 35km radius. A variety of restaurants and pubs are available – in the village and nearby.
