Our family is staying at this establishment for 4 days. At first glance it looked lovely. But then the problems started.
Although the following items were listed as being available on site, promised as being available but it was not, or available but not in working order: TV, DSTV (we were warned about the DSTV not being available, and told to bring our own which was not possible, but without the DSTV the TV is not working either), hairdryer, heaters (we were told wall units worked well, but one is not working, and the other one is not nearly adequate, and we are here in the middle of winter), electric blanket, tumble dryer, microwave, en suite bathroom (there is only a toilet in a dark corner of the main bedroom, with a shoulder height cupboard between the toilet and bed, and is thus not private from the rest of the main bedroom).
Although the owner, and an agent that she referred us to, communicated well on the day of arrival, the owner has yet to respond to our sms comlaints (sent on the day of arrival and the next day), and the agent only responded to the first 2 sms's, at least bringing us better towels and another microwave (which also did not work).
The only positive about this house is its excellent location, as it is on the sea front. But the house is in a complex where small stands have houses shoulder to shoulder, leaving no room to park for a 2nd car (we had a car and trailer which filled the small parking area in front of the house) or boat. In season this complex would be a bustle of activity.
It is our opinion that we have not received value for our money, especially at the rate of R1500 per night plus a R2000 deposit fee.
Furthermore, the condition of the house was not really fit for rental: Mould on the ceiling in the main bedroom, window blinds and window blind next to the fireplace (of which the ash trap was blocked); corner bath separating from the wall resulting in a big gap between the wall and the bath; poorly installed glass sliding door in main bedroom causing strong draft in the room (about a 2 inch space at the bottom, and you can put your hand between the 2 doors) that we tried to block with napkins; the electric wall plug in the main bedroom is behind a heavy cabinet, and cannot be reached (fortunately we brought electrical leads with us, and now use it connected to a wall outlet in the kitchen for a heater we bought); the towels are old, not a good quality, and too rough to use on your skin; the couch is so dirty we do not want to sit on it; poorly installed cheap sliding doors between the bathroom and living area, providing little privacy; there is another poorly installed cheap sliding door between the main bedroom and the bathroom, once again providing little privacy;
