Umkhumbi is the Zulu name for the Red Duiker, a shy small red antelope, which is our favourite and can commonly be seen picking its way across the forest floor. Nyala and Suni are regularly spotted. Umkhumbi is also fast becoming popular for it’s stunning birdlife with regular sightings of Twinspots.

Begin your evening by sipping sundowners with a view over the bushveld and enjoy swapping stories in the cosy Lapa area where you can enjoy your meals and drinks with other guests and guides, and even sometimes the bushbabies. The sunset is stunning from the restaurant deck and not to be missed!

Umkhumbi is ideal for family holidays, as children don’t need to sleep in make shift beds, or far away from their parents, they are situated right next door. Kids will love exploring the nearby bush. You might even spot our hand reared Impala!

Accommodation

Umkhumbi Lodge offers luxury accommodation in comfortable air-conditioned lodges, all nestled in the bush. We have 12 twin-bedded rooms and each lodge has 2 rooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. An inter-leading door makes these units perfect for families, as kids can easily sleep close by, while you still enjoy your privacy. Each bathroom has a bath and shower. All guest rooms are fitted with a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, private veranda and air con.

Accommodation rates are on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Complimentary, tea, coffee and juice are available at any time.

Self Catering Unit
Umkhumbi Lodge also has one self catering flat available. This self-contained unit sleeps 4 people with a double bed in the bedroom and a sleeper-couch in the lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped and the rooms are spacious, including the bathroom with large bath and walk-in shower. There is a private veranda.

Umkhumbi is ideal as a base to do various activities from. We are ideally situated for the diverse traveller that wants a bit of bush and beach. We suggest a three night stay to get the most out of your surroundings. Umkhumbi is also a great place to overnight on your way to Mozambique.

Location

Umkhumbi Lodge is perfectly positioned to experience the best of the region, being very close to several wildlife reserves: Hluhluwe Umfolozi, Mkhuze, Isimangaliso Wetland Park, Ndumo and Tembe Elephant Reserve. Umkhumbi is on the Sodwana Road (R22), 17km past Hluhluwe town.

Additional Services

We offer transfers in the region, both to and from the lodge from Durban and Richards Bay airports and all other destinations within the region.
