When city life becomes too much for you, get in your car and head for Twin Pools. A tastefully decorated four-star guesthouse, Twin Pools Lodge offers five star facilities and is set in the beautiful Balgowan Valley in the Natal Midlands. The owners, Gus and Heather Behn, give personalized service. Learn to breathe again, watch the stars, the stunning sunsets and sunrises. Watch mist spiral out of the indigenous bush in the early morning. Listen to the warble of bird life, the occasional bark of a baboon and the frog orchestra in the evenings. Take photographs or go for walks through some of the most beautiful indigenous forests, one of which has Cape Parrots, if you are lucky enough to spot them, all of this close by. You can relax, read, fish for Bass in our dams, or just watch the grass grow. From our deep verandah it is very easy to relax and do nothing at this idyllic spot. AccommodationWe offer either Bed and Breakfast or Self Catering and are famous for our hearty breakfasts. The open plan suites have electric blankets, heated towel rails, heaters, fans, hair driers, TV, sitting areas and a kitchenettes with hobs, microwaves, tea and coffee facilities, a small fridge, cutlery and crockery. All have separate entrances, patios and braais. One has a king bed and the bathroom has a separate shower and corner bath. The others have queen beds and showers only in the bathrooms. We can provide single beds for extra people if necessary. Attractions and ActivitiesThere is loads to do if you choose, mountain biking, playing golf, a canopy tour for excitement, or horse riding, all close by. You can visit our little gift and décor shop then visit some of the artists in the area; the Potter, Ian Glenny, the Wood Turner, with lovely turned wooden articles, the Yeti Leather factory, where shoes are hand stitched the old fashioned way and Ground Cover for a collection of leather items. Watch the artists at Ardmore Studios let their imaginations go wild, See the beautiful beadwork at Decadence, visit Swissland cheese to sample their cheeses while the kids play with the baby goats. The Karkloof Farmers Market is on a Saturday morning, and is a great place to fill your picnic baskets with delicious breads, ham, fruit and veg. If you visit us in the winter, you might be lucky enough to experience a snow fall, when our valley becomes a winter wonderland. We also have some amazing restaurants close by. When the day is done, you can relax with a drink on the verandah, watch the sunset and the reflections in the dam.
