The Victorian estate can accommodate up to eight visitors in a tranquil setting of rural sophistication. Accommodation consists of four double bedrooms (three twins and one double) each with its own bathroom.
The magnificent lounge area is the ideal place to socialize with sundowners after a long day of adventuring or bird watching, enjoying a log fire, or your choice of programme on DStv. The fully equipped kitchen enables visitors to prepare their own fare and enjoy meals in the spacious dining room.
The immaculate gardens offer shady or sunny walkways, or open spaces to relax and have a braai, watching the sun setting over the mountains.
Toad Hall is able to cater for breakfasts and dinners on request, as an alternative to self-catering. Local eateries provide anything from pub grub, picnic baskets or tapas, home cooked meals or restaurant fair, all to international standards.
Set in the surrounds of the foothills of the Drakensburg Mountains and a birding hotspot in the wetland that Wakkerstroom is internationally renowned for, Toad Hall is ideal for a weekend getaway or a stopover on the way to Swaziland, Mozambique or KwaZulu Natal nature reserves.
Birders can look forward to various birds that are endemic to the area, and guided birding tours can be arranged. The 700 hectare wetland, with four hides, plus the drives in and around the village, out to Zaaihoek Dam or towards Piet Retief guarantee great birding experience. Early risers may even see the otters playing in the river, and meerkats and buck can be viewed on drives.
Mountain biking, hiking or scenic drives keep the more adventurous busy, and cozy log fires in winter keep the more sedate visitor warm on those lazy winter afternoons. For those interested in history, further out of the village Anglo Boer War and Zulu War sites, as well as rock art sites can be visited. Trout and bass fishing is available in dams nearby on arrangement.
