The Red House is a gracious Georgian country house, originally built as a hunting lodge and once owned by Lord Charles Somerset. A national monument shaded by the leafy oaks of Newlands and sheltering in the lee of the majestic Table Mountain. Originally dating back to the year 1729, this enchanting house is one of Cape Town's oldest buildings. The bedroom wing has walls over three feet thick, with high ceilings and floors glowing with the patina of yellow wood and Oregon pine from a bygone era. Ingeborg and Ben van Maanen (of Dutch origin), and friendly staff are always on hand to ensure personal and professional service.
