Tamarisk is situated in upper Glenwood. It is the proud addition to Terebinte Guest Houses owned by Gerhard and Yuri Duraan who have successfully run its older brother, Terebinte B&B, since 2011.
It has the tranquility of a home-away-from home setting while still being part of the hustle and bustle which is Durban. Whether on business or holiday you will love staying with us.
The 5 en-suite rooms are individually decorated, reflecting the artistic and eclectic style of its owners. With all the modern amenities such as DStv, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi available, you will also be able to enjoy a lovely farm-style breakfast and old-school hospitality from your hosts. There is also a small pool where you are able to relax or have a quick dip to alleviate the effects of the Durban summer heat.
The Honey Suite:
The Honey Suite is the luxury suite at Tamarisk with the surprising element of having a genuine old brass footed bath in the bay window of the room. The queen-size antique four-poster bed dominates the room and is complimented with artwork of Tretchikoff, Lidi van Schalkwyk and Yuri herself. The en-suite bathroom boasts stained glass front door and windows. The towels are Egyptian cotton and you will truly feel spoilt when you step into the spacious shower with its Swedish fittings. It has air-conditioning, DStv, Wi-Fi, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Additionally there is also a bar fridge for champagne.
The Piano Room:
The Piano Room is decorated with vintage flair and has a beautiful white and brass antique queen-size bed, beveled mirror with distressed frame and an antique white honkey-tonk piano. The en-suite bathroom has a shower with Swedish fittings but we were able to keep the original brass taps. This room offers air-conditioning, DStv, Wi-Fi and tea- and coffee- making facilities.
The Photography Room:
The Photography room has a back-drop of muted grey tones with quirky red accents and fresh crisp white bedding. It has an antique wooden double bed and wardrobe. The room’s most interesting features, however, are the old framed photographs from 1950’s movies and collection of vintage cameras, showcasing Gerhard’s love for “the sport”. The small en-suite bathroom has a very comfortable spacious shower and some artwork obtained in Venice. The room has air-conditioning, DStv, Wi-Fi and tea- and coffee-making facilities.
The Pool House:
The Pool House is a stand-alone room at the back of the property next to the swimming pool and is designed to make you feel right at home. You will be charmed by its playful décor which include a double bed and various eclectic pieces of furniture as well as a few magical accessories. The en-suite bathroom is very spacious and has a large shower. The room has air conditioning, DStv, Wi-Fi and coffee & tea making facilities.
The Penthouse got its “tongue-in-the-cheek” name because it is higher than the other rooms and has steps leading up to its door with a little balcony. It is a stand-alone building at the back of the property overlooking the swimming pool. It has a small cozy room with an en-suite toilet and basin and the very interesting feature of sliding doors leading to a private enclosure with an outside shower. Lovely décor and the "Paris bed" complete this setting and will ensure that you will have a comfortable stay, and if you feel like it, have a cup of something on your sunny balcony just outside your front door. The room has air conditioning, DStv, Wi-Fi and coffee & tea making facilities.
Tamarisk is in close proximity to several hospitals, the University of KwaZulu-Natal and various shopping malls. It is centrally located which makes it easy to get to the beach, ICC, Moses Mabhida stadium and a host of restaurants and bespoke coffee shops which are situated in Glenwood itself. The Elizabeth Sneddon and Rumbalow Theatres are also close by and the Durban Botanical Gardens is a 5 minute drive away.
We are approximately 3.5km from the Durban Golden Mile (beach), which makes this an ideal stay for holidaymakers, business people, students and hospital visitors alike.
