About Taaibos River Lodge
Taaibos River Lodge is situated in the world acclaimed Welgevonden Game Reserve which offers the visitor something completely different. This is mountain bushveld with rivers running through it and sweeping views to far horizons. Its high altitude, temperate climate and malaria free makes it worth a visit all year round.
Welgevonden is home to most of Africas famous wildlife, with over 50 mammal species, including the big five, and over 250 bird species. The quick-changing landscape offers a wide variety of habitats and a broad spectrum of bird and animal species that can be viewed.
Taaibos River Lodge is an elegant wilderness retreat, with its eye-catching design and architecture it offers all of the modern comforts of a luxury home in the bush. The Lodge is situated on the edge of a dramatic valley, overhanging the Taaibos River and overlooks stunning, billion-year-old cliffs.
The Lodge was designed as a sophisticated 'colonial style' lodge, able to accommodate ten guests in one large structure. All five of the luxuriously spacious rooms, with hardwood floors and high ceilings, are complete with full en-suite bathrooms, private outside showers and ample space.
They are equipped with under-floor heating in the bathrooms, individually controlled air conditioning units and have their own chilled, purified water system for the health conscious visitor. All glass is double glazed, facilitating excellent climate control.

Going the extra mile our staff are renowned for service. Meals can be presented from casual, private and cosy buffet-style occasions, to indulging full-service plated events. An extensive wine cellar, together with an exotic collection of whiskeys, cognacs and liqueurs compliment our delicious fare.
Walks and Rock Art:
Take some time to experience the finer detail of the bush with a guided walk that will bring you closer to the wildlife, and allow you to experience those sights and sounds that you may very well miss on a vehicle. The Lodge is situated near to an exquisite rock art site dating back to around 2000 years ago. Walks to this site can be arranged where you can learn about why these paintings are so important to those who painted them, how they painted them and how we can interpret these paintings today.
Indulge in some stargazing after dinner, viewing the nearby planets and searching for your favourite constellations or just more insight into the night sky.
Our knowledgeable guide will conduct your daily game drives to view the Big 5 or more. Our drive times are flexible and although we will offer advice, you get to choose what time you drive, and how long you go out for. All drives are conducted in our own open Land Rover with an on-board fridge to ensure an ice cold beverage at all times.
