About Sunbird Mountain Retreat
Sunbird Mountain Retreat offers both self catering and B&B accommodation set in a forested mountain paradise, surrounded by the indigenous Table Mountain Reserve, situated midway between Constantia Village and Hout Bay Village, on the back slope of Table Mountain in the beautiful Hout Bay Valley, centrally placed to explore the major attractions of the Cape Peninsula.
The Guest House (B&B accommodation):
Is comprised of three spacious en-suite queen or twin bedded rooms, with private balconies sporting recliners to soak up the tranquil forest and mountain views, as well as a ground floor family room consisting of two adjoining rooms with toilet and shower facilities shared between the two rooms making up the family unit. The stable doors of the two rooms comprising the family room both open onto a paved patio, from where it is a short walk to the pool.
Ken prepares a scrumptious breakfast served either in our sunny breakfast room or outside under the trees. Ken enjoys chatting to guests, learning about them and what they enjoy so that he can ensure that they get to do and see what they would most enjoy while holidaying in Cape Town.
Self Catering Accommodation:
Three one bed roomed self catering units with en suite shower and toilet and open plan kitchen and lounge. The upstairs Butterfly Unit has double bed and a small sleeping loft containing two comfortable mattresses. The ground floor Zebra Unit is a twin bedded unit with twin basins and a patio, with a lovely lawn in front of it.
The Leopard Unit is the unit above the Zebra Unit and is also a twin bedded unit with a small sleeping loft containing a single comfortable mattress. The sleeping loft is suitable for children 7 years of age and older or young adults, as it is accessed by a fairly steep ladder stair and the units are open plan and have lovely views of the forest and or the mountains.
The upstairs units have open large balconies for relaxing, sunbathing etc and there are numerous outdoor areas eg at the Koi pond under the trees and a downstairs braai area for the top two units. These two units share a common downstairs entrance and are separated by a small landing, therefore can be used by a large family as one unit.
Our secluded pool lies in an amphitheater created by the surrounding mountains, offering stunning views and a sense of 'being at one with nature'. Being away from the beach and in the valley, the pool is largely protected from the South Easter that is prevalent during the summer months making this an ideal place to retreat to and soak up the sun and views, when the wind chases you off the beach.
The self catering apartments are a short walk (40 - 50 metres) from the Guest House and the pool. The Guest House can also be let on a self catering basis to groups of 8 or more. Escape to peace and tranquility.
