Swellendam Accommodation / Schoone Oordt Country House Swellendam Accommodation / Luxury Accommodation in Swellendam

Dating back to 1853, Schoone Oordt Country House is a voluptuous Victorian Lady that rests elegantly on a rise behind a small park at the junction of Swellengrebel and Voortrek Streets, the major arteries running through the beautifully positioned Overberg town of Swellendam.

After thousands of hours of meticulous restoration to the main house and with the addition of 9 luxury suites situated in terraced, landscaped gardens, Schoone Oordt Country House is finally ready to throw open it’s doors. Owners Richard and Alison Walker and Roy Hunter have painstakingly transformed this National Monument to beyond its former glory.

The house has a comfortable Bar and Lounge area with a roaring fire in wintry weather, a cosy country kitchen and a dining room that hosts dinners for up to 20 guests. A large salt-water pool is surrounded by comfortable loungers - perfect for sun worshippers or a nap in the shade of an umbrella.

Accommodation

Positioned around a fragrant rose garden, fountains and a landscaped garden are 8 Luxury Suites that have their own patios, exquisite bathrooms, mini bar, tea / coffee facilities, satellite TV and DVD players.

Handmade linen, goose-down duvets, pure wool carpets, open hearth and under-floor heating and heated towel rails in the bathrooms all add to the luxury. Whilst the Suites retain the Victorian feel of the main house, they are uncluttered and exude luxurious style and elegance.

Honeymoon Suite

The Honeymoon Suite is private and tucked away on the edge of a lush, shady forest with the Koornlands River gurgling along at it’s perimeter. Whilst it has all the delights of the Luxury Suites, the Honeymoon Suite is unashamedly romantic with its large hearth, exquisitely carved four-poster bed and oversized bathroom.

Breakfast

Breakfasts are extensive and delicious and served when it suits guests. Lunch and Dinners are by arrangement only.

Cape Weddings & Functions

The owners have years of experience in event co-ordination, and the grounds have been designed with a view to hosting weddings, parties and intimate functions.

Swellendam

At the foot of the imposing Langeberg Mountains and exactly halfway between Cape Town and George, Swellendam offers nature lovers an abundance of activities such as hiking, horse and mountain-bike trails, water sports on the nearby Breede River, and trips through the Bontebok National Park and Marloth Nature Reserve.

Swellendam has a nine hole golf course, many good restaurants, Arts and Craft shops and Galleries. It also houses an extensive Museum complex (After Cape Town and Stellenbosch, Swellendam is the next oldest settlement in the country.)

The renowned vineyards and estates of the Robertson Wine Valley are a short distance away, offering tasting and cellar tours. Many have excellent restaurants as well. Swellendam is the ideal destination for a weekend getaway or longer break, as well as being ideally suited for an overnight stop between the Peninsula and the Garden Route.
