Set in beautiful gardens or on a hillside with magnificent views of the mountains, each self-catering cottage is different, yet all are enchanting. The verandas, the thick walls, the open fire-places, the furnishings, as well as the Persian rugs on terra-cotta or concrete floors, are all reminiscent of a past era. Beds are comfortable and linen is of a good quality. The extensive gardens are lovely.
Each cottage has a private veranda with seating and a kettle barbeque and encompasses breathtaking views over the foothills of the Steenkampsberg Mountain range. Schaefers’ Halt with its historic atmosphere, personal touches and many little extras offers a memorable and affordable breakaway experience.
The Snug
Is a restored historical Boer Cottage and is the ultimate romantic hide-away for a couple. A natural spring rises on the property and this pure water cascades down a furrow next to ‘The Snug’ so that the tinkling sound of water is a constant backdrop. Baskets of kindling and flowerpots all add to the charm. Barbeque on the covered veranda whilst enjoying the magnificent night sky and the sounds of nature.
The Cosy
This charming cottage has two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and is in a secure and private position close to the farmstead. The colonial style cottage with its 1930’s furnishings and bric-a-brac invokes a refined era when tea was sipped from delicate china and sherry poured from glass decanters. The Cosy is wheel-chair friendly. The long covered veranda festooned with rambling roses overlooks a cottage garden with a bubbling water fountain and views over the water.
Cloud Cottage
Is in a private setting high on the hillside with sweeping views over the rolling grassland to the mountains beyond. Surrounded by wild flowers and stunning views, the house is a good starting point for great walks and hikes. This secure cottage is ideal family accommodation or suits two couples sharing. Curl up with a book in front of a roaring fireplace in the open-plan lounge area with its country furnishings and terracotta tiled floors or unwind and enjoy sundowners while you braai/barbeque on the covered veranda.
Wind Song Cottage
This 2 bed roomed, one bath roomed cottage in a private setting on the hillside is ideal self-catering family accommodation. Enjoy a sherry from the complimentary decanter, prepare dinner in the well-equipped kitchen or barbeque on the veranda with stunning views as far as the eye can see. An outdoor area has been fenced for pets, so the whole family can come along and have a great time! Pet friendly.
