Hout Bay Accommodation / River Lodge Hout Bay Accommodation / Holiday Home in Hout Bay

An exclusive self-catering retreat for one or two couples. A wind sheltered paradise, brushed by a mountain stream on the foot of Table Mountain in the Orange Kloof Nature Reserve Valley.

You might well want to stage an open-air production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream down on the wooden decks at River Lodge. The house is sequestered in an indigenous forest where great rocks emerge from the earth and a busy stream runs down the mountain and disappears into the trees below the house.

At night the setting is particularly enticing as spotlights have been set among the trees and you can sit out and have a braai on the spreading lake of wooden decking that encompasses whole trees and a heated swimming pool too. There is even a rather charming dassie family that live among the rocks here and who come out during the day.

ACCOMMODATION:

The house itself has an open-plan design with vaulted ceiling, big windows and huge verandahs, and is way more luxurious than it needs to be! Decadently large leather sofas, heated towel rails, antique English furnishings, under-floor heating, an amazing kitchen ... Whether you pass your time swinging in the hammock lulled by the sounds of silence, investigating the nearby rock pools or sizzling yourself in the sauna, it will be hard not to lose yourself here.

The Master Bedroom:
Comfortable queen sized mahogany sleigh bed with double doors opening onto the balau clad swimming pool veranda. The en-suite bathroom has a wonderfully large Jacuzzi bath and an outside shower.

The Second Bedroom:
Two single mahogany sleigh beds with an en suite bathroom (shower). Opening the double doors, you overlook an old riverbed under beautiful indigenous milk wood trees. From time to time the Dassies come and visit.

The Upstairs Loft:
Serves as a TV room and library. A futon can serve as a double bed and comfortably sleep two. This third room leads into an en-suite bathroom for guests.

The Lounge:
With a cosy fireplace and a high ceiling, it is elegantly furnished. Double doors lead onto a covered veranda. Furnished with cane chairs and an outside sand stone table (seats six).

The Kitchen:
Superbly fitted with a generous stove / oven, two bar fridges, a microwave, a quiet dishwasher and a yellow wood table (seats six).
