About Raptor Retreat Game Lodge
Raptor Retreat Game Lodge is situated on the Parsons Nature Reserve within the Mopani region, approximately 40km north of Hoedspruit, and only a 4km game drive away from the banks of the Oliphants River, which forms the southern border of the Limpopo Province. This unspoiled corner of South Africa is renowned for it’s abundance of wildlife, mountainous scenery, indigenous forests, cascading waterfalls and diverse cultures. Raptor Retreat is an owner managed game lodge, offering luxurious accommodation and excellent service.
We offer excursions into the Kruger National Park, excellent bird watching opportunities, adrenalin pumping adventure activities and much more. Guests with their own vehicles can go on a self-drive excursion and be back in time for a boma dinner.
MAIN LODGE & ACCOMMODATION
At the heart of Raptor Retreat is the Main Lodge where guests can gather to either dine or catch up on their adventures.
Lodge Accommodation (2 units):
Two private lodges: the Elephant Lodge and the Buffalo Lodge. Each air-conditioned room has high thatched ceilings and a huge built-in king-size bed, as well as a large sliding door that opens onto a private deck with double recliners and splash pool. Open-plan wet bathroom features sliding doors, duel basins, a large shower and bath. Teas / coffees are provided as well as a fully stocked bar fridge.
Self Catering Accommodation (2 units):
Two air-conditioned self-catering units: Rhino and Hippo (each sleeps up to 4 persons). These spacious units each have two bedrooms (Rhino: king-size bed and two ¾ beds, Hippo: both king size beds), plus en-suite bathrooms. Each with a large lounge (full DStv), a fully equipped kitchen with large raised patio and with dining facilities, recliners and a splash pool.
Each unit also has its own boma and fire pit that includes braai facilities. The main lodge facilities are also open to guests staying at the self catering units as well as the game drives and other game-viewing activities offered at the lodge.
Hearty meals will be served twice a day in the dining area, or on the deck, where you will experience good old-fashioned home cooking. Any special dietary requirements should be arranged beforehand. Meals can be taken under the stars in the boma which features a built in table, comfortable seating and a fire pit – all lit by romantic paraffin lamps.
With the possibility of having the Big 5 on your doorstep and an abundance of bird life, we offer early morning or late afternoon informative game drives with an experienced field guide. Take in the breathtaking views of the Oliphants River Valley whilst sipping on a refreshment and savouring the local snacks.
For the more energetic we offer professionally guided bush and bird walks, where our extensive knowledge of all things wild are shared. Safety is of the utmost importance, which is why all excursions must be accompanied by one of our experienced field guides. We also offer accompanied day trips into the Kruger Park, however, you can also explore the big five there in your own vehicle at your own pace.
Need some action? Then go on a balloon safari, fly in a micro light over the area, visit various caves, or go river rafting on the Blyde River. For the more adventurous, kloofing is available in Magoebaskloof, or experience the famous sky walk trails which consist of several suspension bridges and slides – the views are simply breathtaking!
If golf is your game, you can visit any of the four golf clubs within the area. Hans Merensky is a prominent golf club where you can spot wild life wandering on the fairways and greens.
