Enjoy peace and tranquillity in the Owl’s Roost Apartments suitable for three respectively two adults. Part of a private residence set in an elevated position on a steep slope on The Heads where the Knysna River enters the Southern Indian Ocean. Surrounded by typical coastal bush vegetation they have prolific bird life including the Knysna Turaco (Loerie). The views are exquisite and range from the Brenton Hills over the Lagoon to the Outeniqua Mountains and parts of Knysna. The top six photos are of Turaco Apartment, the bottom three of Guinea Fowl Loft.

Accommodation

From the private off-road parking steps lead down to the secluded entrance of the Turaco Self Catering Apartment. Off a short passage is to the left a double bedroom with extra long twin beds and a well appointed lounge. Both enjoy the stunning views. On the right is the bathroom with shower cubicle and bath as well as a fully equipped cozy kitchen with a breakfast nook. There is a three plate stove with oven, an extractor fan, microwave and fridge/freezer. A third 75cm wide bed in the lounge can sleep a third adult.

There is a separate toilet and a storeroom. Off the bedroom is a private shady deck. The outside steps continue to a secluded barbeque in a boma. Sun chairs and folding chairs as well as gas lights are part of the equipment.

Guinea Fowl Loft Self Catering Apartment has its private entrance on the parking level. A short passage leads to the bedroom with twin beds merging through an extra wide sliding door into the views lounge. From there a compact comprehensively equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower and separate toilet are reached. The former two also enjoy the stunning vistas.

Satellite TV is provided with the Premium DSTv bouquet including 40 music and radio channels. Separate Radio and DVD / CD player complete the audiovisual equipment. Free Wireless or LAN Internet is available on request.

The apartments are not serviced but our washing machine and tumble dryer are available by arrangement.

As the house is set on a steep slope both apartments are not suitable for toddlers and small children.

Activities and Attractions

There are two waterfront restaurants 750m away as well as a swimming area in the lagoon and off a jetty near the restaurants. Beware of strong tides in the lagoon mouth. A gourmet chef, Michael Cremer, practices his art on nearby Leisure Isle and two family eating places are on the road to town the centre of which is 6 km away.

You can explore The Heads on foot and access a variety of stunning view sites taking in the whole Panorama from the Outeniqua Mountains to the Indian Ocean. In season (June – October) Southern Right Whales are frequent visitors to the coastline and at times even enter the Lagoon.

Our nearest swimming beaches are Brenton and Buffalo Bay. Our favourite picnic spots are Jubilee Creek in the Goldfields Forest and Kranshoek overlooking the Indian Ocean. Both have lovely walks from easy to challenging.

Golf opportunities abound in the area the nearest being Knysna Golf Club (3 km) and Pezula Championship Golf Course (5 km).
