We had a 2 night stay at Overzee Guest House in October 2010 towards the end of our 3 week stay in South Africa. By then we had stayed in several really nice places and found Overzee to be one of the best. The view is spectacular with its uninterrupted ocean vista. We sat on our deck watching whales and dolphins in the ocean and bushbuck and colourful birds in the bush and on the sloping lawns.
The visitors’ book had numerous mentions of the great breakfast and we agreed wholeheartedly with these comments; the morning feast really sets you up for a busy day ahead. Our room was very comfortable with a shared deck open to the sea view.
Ben gave us valuable tips and guidance about where to go and how to get there so that we had an excellent drive through the mountains on good quality gravel roads where we saw great landscapes, animals and birds. Part of Ben’s suggested route had us driving through a private game reserve on a public road. Whilst we did not see much game there we were excited to see the sign at the entrance which warned us to beware of lions!!!
Ben also told us about a group of restaurants in Mossel Bay that provided a free taxi service to clients so he organised a car to pick us up and drop us off at his recommended eatery in the town on our second night. The food was really nice and it was a pleasure not to have to think about driving back after a shared bottle of wine. The cost of the meal was very reasonable but particularly so when one considers that the price effectively included a return taxi trip.
Ben and Liesbeth provide a very pleasant and relaxing welcome and we would recommend Overzee Guest House without hesitation.
