The beautiful coastal village of Mthunzini is a declared conservancy and home to the Raphia Palm Monument. A navigable lagoon winds through the mouth onto the unspoilt beach, fishing, waterskiing and boating are all encouraged here. The conservancy is home to a few animals such as zebra and duiker, as well as fish-eagles and vultures amongst the assorted bird life.

Accommodation


One-on-Hely features the utmost in comfort and modern amenities and is ideally situated close to the entrance of this tranquil seaside village. It commands breathtaking views of beautiful natural surroundings and all six bedrooms open onto enormous private balconies where guests can gaze across a magnificent expanse of evergreen coastal forest fringing the warm Indian Ocean. This is the perfect setting for recreation and relaxation.

All rooms have stylish en suite bathrooms and extra-length king-size beds. The rooms can be converted to twin rooms, by arrangement. Each room has air-conditioning, ceiling fan, DSTV, a bar fridge, tea/coffee tray, hairdryer, work desk, WiFi and an in-room safe. Swimming pool towels are provided and laundry is done on request.

Breakfast and dining


A scrumptious breakfast is served in the contemporary dining room or out on the naturally weathered balau pool deck. You may try out several popular restaurants which are within walking distance.

Location


Business people can relax in an unpolluted environment and do business in Isithebe (Mandini), Empangeni and Richards Bay, all within a 50km radius of Mthunzini. Durban is 135km south of Mthunzini.

Mthunzini can be accessed from two airports, Richards Bay (60km) to the North and King Shaka International (100km) to the South, contact us to organize transport. Visitors can safely walk around the village. The beach, nature reserve and river are 2km away. Barge trips on the lagoon can be arranged.

Activities and Attractions


One-on-Hely is situated en route to the Hluhluwe / Imfolozi Game Reserve, where the big 5 can be spotted, and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. In the area you will find the pristine Ongoye Forest, home to many rare and endemic bird and animal species.

Whilst the nearby Eshowe boasts an Aerial Boardwalk which overlooks the Dlinza Forest from a 10 metre high observation platform, these are but a few of the attractions in close proximity, making this an ideal stop-over for business people, leisure travelers, nature lovers and birders.

Mthunzini Country Club invites you to make use of their facilities. They offer tennis, squash and have a challenging nine hole par 71 golf course with spectacular views of the lagoon and ocean. Besides trying to make a few birdies, birders may spot a rare Palmnut Vulture gliding over the course to nest in the nearby Raphia Palms, one of the few declared National Monuments in South Africa.

Mthunzini also boasts a bowling club.
