About Old Joe's Kaia
Old Joe’s Kaia is a country haven for the dreamers of a better world. In our Lowveld paradise we delight and nourish our guests with a myriad of nature based activities and vegan cuisine.
Expect fresh and unpolluted mountain air, fabulous scenery, prolific birdsong and a wonderful relaxing, homely atmosphere. Old Joe's Kaia is unpretentious with a lot of character and soul. It offers a unique experience to those who wish to rekindle important friendships, relationships, joy and laughter.
A beautiful labyrinth and garden provide a peaceful space for those who seek solitude and tranquillity. It is furthermore known for its excellent country style cuisine and fabulous wines.

Accommodation is offered in Rondavels and Kaia Rooms - each has high doses of quirk, love and comfort. Each uniquely appointed en suite room has their own private outdoor area.
Rondavels (thatched huts):
These were the first units built at Old Joe’s Kaia. They are spacious with an organic feel from Africa, and sleep up to 3 people.
Kaia Rooms (“home” in Zulu):
'These semi-detached units are extremely cosy and private. Watch the birds from your own private balcony while sipping your early morning coffee or late afternoon sundowner, overlooking the garden towards the swimming pool.
These free standing units are high up on stilts in our garden forest. Each one is uniquely appointed, with their own private balconies and ensuite bathrooms. Bird watching is excellent with Paradise Flycatchers and other aerial treasures darting through the vegetation surrounding the cabins.
Old Joe’s Kaia has always been well-known for its excellent cuisine and fabulous wines. Our meals are creative yet wholesome with country flair. Our fast becoming famous restaurant was renamed on the first of February, and is now called The Seedling.
The magic ingredient has stayed the same and Marian heads up the kitchen with renewed passion, flair and a plethora of plant based ingredients to delight and nourish our guests.

Walking / Hiking / Birding:
The Schoemanskloof Valley is an absolute paradise for nature lovers. Collect your pre-ordered backpack or picnic basket from reception early in the morning and set off to a cosy spot you have found somewhere in the Valley, or join an organised guided walk with an expert on the fauna and flora of the area.
Horse Riding (30 minutes away):
Enjoy the uniqueness of the Kaapsehoop area on horseback. Walk to the edge of the escarpment and see the largest crater in the southern hemisphere.
National Botanical Gardens:
A haven for birds and and over 650 species of indigenous trees. It boasts the world’s largest man-made rainforest where the 159 ha garden straddles the Crocodile and Nels Rivers. Enjoy your packed picnic from our kitchen on the vast lawns or cosy bench on the river front.
Visit the oldest known caves in the world. Besides the awesome rock displays the caverns also boast an array of calcium formations, aged but active, anciently and patiently still growing - a must for every visitor to our area.
Our wellness offering has extended to include yoga, reflexology, massage and inspirational workshops and retreats run on a monthly basis.
