The New Holme Karoo guesthouse is situated on the banks of the Seekoei River to the north end of the Karoo Gariep Conservancy. This is a four star guesthouse and we strive to accommodate our guests as close to home comfort as possible. It is not a tight hotel atmosphere but a very easy and relaxed home like stay.

Accommodation


The guesthouse sleeps only 11 guests in 6 bedrooms and this makes close and personal attention possible. The rooms are all en-suite, decorated and equipped with bar fridges, electric blankets, air conditioning and with tea and coffee facilities. In mid summer the pool comes to a necessary rescue and is a time consuming activity for the children.

Dining


Marisca is known for her high standard cooking. We make use of the well known Karoo lamb and venison as the basis of our three course dinners. All meats are produced on the conservancy and are organic. We only use of the best Cape wines which compliment the dishes. Home made bread and preserves are served. Most evenings you will sip wine around the braai fire with host P.C. as the bright sunset coullers make room for millions of stars.

On request we do an intimate “picnic braai” on the deck at the hippo pool, this is very informal and lamb chops are eaten off the braai by hand. A popular meal for honeymoon couples. This is a karoo experience.

Conferences and Weddings


New Holme offers a unique venue for weddings and conferences. Situated exactly halfway between the big cities of South Africa, it is a convenient location. It is the same case with companies with offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, New Holme is perfectly halfway.

We specialise in small venues, thus more intimate. The Karoo has some of the most amazing settings for wedding pictures; photographers make use of the landscape. We only cater for groups of 50 or less guests, and use all accommodation on the conservancy to accommodate the group.

We call it a “sleep over wedding” as in the old days when people drove to far with their carts to go back home the same day. Guests arrive on a Friday and celebrate two full days and nights.

Couples would rather spend on a longer intimate family get-together than on a flashy five hour event. For these groups we offer the whole conservancy exclusively. Where in the world will you have a 12 000 ha conservancy for your wedding guests only. The Karoo is a perfect setting for a romantic, small and intimate family wedding.

Location


New Holme is 8 km of the N1 highway. The turn off is on the N1, 20 km North of Hanover and 50 km South of Colesberg.

Activities


The owners P.C. and Marisca Ferreira personally attend to guests. New Holme is close to the hippo pool. We do late afternoon sundowners at the hippo pool and absorb the good clean environment over a glass of good wine. A shuttle in the form of a donkey cart takes children on a small tour of the farm yard.

After dinner one of two activities are offered. A night drive on a warm summer night is an amazing experience. Most of the Karoo animals are nocturnal and aardvark and aardwolf are often seen. In winter the stars are better then ever and the Karoo is a well known geographical position for stargazing.

New Holme is frequently visited by small aircraft. This is one of the few lodges were the air strip is walking distance from your room. Mountain bikers come to New Holme to make use of the 100 km of routes on the conservancy. A great way to experience the Karoo.
