Ladysmith is well positioned on the main route between Johannesburg and Durban, being four hours from Johannesburg and three hours from Durban. The town of Ladysmith featured very prominently in the Anglo-Boer War (1899 - 1902) and is subsequently steeped in history. The Siege Museum is definitely worth a visit, as well as several other memorial sites and monuments, and of course the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial and Soofie Mosque.
