Some 60 km from Graaff-Reinet, Nieu-Bethesda is in essence completely isolated, with only two roads in and out of the village. Established in 1875 and named by the preacher Andrew Murray, Nieu-Bethesda was eclipsed by larger towns during the 1930s and ‘40s and became quite impoverished. 27km north from Graaff-Reinet, turn left off the N9 at the signpost to Nieu-Bethesda.
At the first crossroad turn left, the Village Inn Restaurant is at the next far right corner. Or 60km south from Middleburg, turn right off the N9, and after 30km you are in Nieu-Bethesda.
Turn right at the T-junction, then down the main street where the Village Inn Restaurant is at the right corner.
Nieu Bethesda has no bank and no filling station.
