Ambience as a four star graded hotel, visitors can expect a high standard of luxury in all areas of the hotel and superb service from our Zulu staff. Our cuisine which only uses local ingredients has received much acclaim for its quality and variety of taste and the lodge's wine list is recognised as being one of the finest in Natal. This is very much a hotel that is owned and managed by a family familiar with five star standards and expectations.
Our beautifully decorated venue is perfect for both day and night weddings and conferences and can seat up to 250 guests inside and a further 90 on the covered patio (340 in total). It has that special allure and does not require any draping; consequently you can avoid unnecessary further expense. All our table linen, crockery, cutlery and glasses are up-market and together with our padded seats and white chair covers, present an amazing 'wow' factor. Allow our friendly and well trained staff to indulge you and your guests with our superb service.
Lythwood Chapel
The sanctification of the marriage can be undertaken at Lythwood in our unique chapel that has been converted from an old dairy. Seating inside is restricted to 125 but on the concrete apron outside a further 100 or so can be seated. Its rustic character adds a certain charm which hallows the occasion.
Lythwood is located within a 4½ - hour’s drive from Johannesburg and only 1¼ - hour’s drive from Durban. The perfect idyllic getaway and one which you can share with your friends staying over in one of our 32 rooms.
For many visitors a day or two doing nothing is a wonderful tonic - the peace of our countryside can be so relaxing. The more intrepid visitor though will enjoy one of the magnificent walks of approximately three hours through the indigenous forest followed by a dip in the pool. For the birder the area around Lythwood is a real treat; it offers three different habitats and to date 160 plus species have been seen (or heard) including the very rare Cape Parrot and the Martial Eagle. And if you want to catch a trout for your breakfast then there is always the opportunity to cast a fly on either the dam or the river.
Close to Lythwood are the many craft shops of the Midlands Meander including the internationally known Ardmore Pottery and visitors looking for a present for themselves or loved ones will enjoy spending some time visiting some of these establishments. Try your hand at croquet over a decadent High Tea offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and bring your family and friends for a three course roast on Saturdays and Sundays.
Our visitors may also like to experience the lifestyle of the local township of Mpophomeni and learn about the 1980’s Sarmcol strikes whilst sipping on sorghum beer in a nearby shebeen. The visitor will also be offered the chance to participate in the dancing and drumming or visit the San Bushmen art, the Battlefields or Sani Pass. Either half day or full day tours can be arranged at a very nominal cost. Nearby we have horse whispering, golf and helicopters. There is so much to do – let us help you explore!
