Ian and Maggie Forbes welcome you to Lonach Guest House, a tranquil country house set in 4.5 hectares, on a hill, with sweeping views down to the ocean. In a busy world of concrete and glass, be prepared to slip away and discover this haven of peace, only 10km from Port Elizabeth Airport. The name ‘Lonach’ was inspired by a favourite uncle of Ian’s, Bill, who had two great passions - Scotland and Africa. Bill’s home in Fochabers, Morayshire, was named Lonach after the hill in Scotland where the Forbes clan meets annually for their Highland Games. The games are extremely popular and in recent years have attracted many celebrities, thanks in many respects to comedian Billy Connelly who owns a home in the area. Lonach is also the war cry of the Forbes clan. AccommodationLonach offers three rooms, all of which are en-suite, beautifully furnished with all amenities including DStv, clock radios, complimentary hospitality trays, electric blankets and heaters, hairdryers, mini fridges and fluffy white toweling robes. Our beds are all queen sized, with luxurious down duvets and pillows and top quality linens. Our Luxury rooms have en-suite showers, whilst the Premier room has bath and shower and his’n’her basins. It also has its own private patio. All bedrooms have wonderful views from every window. FacilitiesGuests have exclusive use of two lounges - a cozy TV room and a quiet lounge with a huge log fireplace (just the place to curl up on a chilly winter day). In summer take a dip in our sparkling pool and enjoy a braai and the garden room. Delicious breakfasts are served in the sunny dining room or, weather permitting beside the pool. Whatever the weather, genuine warm and inviting hospitality is guaranteed. The garden of ‘our’ Lonach in Port Elizabeth is full of indigenous and exotic plants and home to a great variety of birdlife including the shy Knysna loerie (see one, and you are sure to see its mate close by - often several pairs visit at the same time). Take a stroll through the gardens and you may spot Cape eagle owls, many colourful sunbirds who are regular visitors, golden orioles and of course, we have our comical resident guinea fowl, elusive small buck sheltering in the bush and many roaming tortoises that are often faster than stories tell. If you take an early evening stroll, you may even see a porcupine. For the more energetic, take a walk around boundary of the property - approximately one kilometer of inclines.
