The Calvinia district is part of the Great Karoo and is situated between Cape Town and Upington on the Namibia Route. This area is well known as a wool producing district and is also popular for the many colourful spring wildflowers which come into bloom during August and September - also known as the Namaqualand daisy season.
In the town of Calvinia and its surrounding areas, you will find a number of interesting attractions, including the Calvinia Museum, the Boekhuis ("Book House", an historical building) and the Akkerendam Nature Reserve. Guided tours of the towns hotspots are available from the tourist information centre at the museum.
