This piece of paradise is situated in the southern Drakensberg range, in the North Eastern corner of the Eastern Cape Highlands. A mere 1.5 km outside the Historic Village of Rhodes.
We offer self catering or bed & breakfast accommodation to our Guests who will have the benefit of a farm stay in modern, spacious, well equipped accommodation, yet are still very close to the amenities Rhodes has to offer.
The Farm Kinmel and surrounding areas are a nature lover’s paradise. The magnificent mountains, pristine rivers with its rock pools and waterfalls, open space with crisp clear mountain air, offer the perfect getaway. We offer something for everyone, from old to young, the more adventurous or just wishing for some peace and quiet, it’s all to be had. Enjoy one or more of our many activities or simply put your feet up, relax and enjoy the beauty and splendour which the Southern Drakensberg has to offer.
The old sheep shearing barn has been converted into modern, spacious, well equipped three bed roomed chalets with two bathrooms each. The chalets are fully equipped for self catering.
Large glass patio doors lead onto a wide verandah, with spectacular views of the Drakensberg mountains and the Bell River flowing past 400 metres away.
Surrounding the chalets are large lawns with, a small lovely mountain stream murmuring past less than 50 meters away. Wide open spaces where everybody can walk, play, cycle or do whatever they desire. A very child friendly environment with two jungle gyms for the kids to keep them busy.
In addition to electric lights, fridge (with freezer compartment), microwave oven, stove and plug points, they all have fireplaces and private braai areas. Firewood is supplied free of charge. The cottages are fully equipped and serviced daily by cleaning staff. A Cot can be provided on request. Bedrooms are upstairs with an easy child friendly staircase. No smoking is inside the chalets.

Sleeps up to 11 persons in comfort.
Wilgerboom Chalet
Sleeps up to 9 persons in comfort. Main bedroom en-suite.
Chalets are never shared with other people, except when requested or if it is a group booking.
We offer self catering or bed & breakfast. We can arrange dinner at a variety of venues less than 5 minutes away.
Weather wise, days are fine and summer temperatures range between five and thirty degrees Celsius. Winter temperatures are severe and often reach well below zero. It is always advisable to bring warm clothes, a hat and a raincoat as the weather in the mountains can change rapidly and several "seasons" can be experienced in a single day.
Hosting a conference and / or team building (range of activities) and / or corporate function here at Kinmel Guest Farm, will provide you not only with a magnificent setting in the mountains, but will ensure a conference without interruptions and / or the disturbance of traffic and other noises. We provide peace, tranquility and a relaxing atmosphere in which to host a very successful conference.
On-site we can cater for small conferences up to about 25 in our in-house conference room or about 50 / 55 can be hosted on our large spacious (enclosed) verandah, with magnificent views of the Drakensberg. We have available white boards (flip charts), a DVD player, large TV screen, overhead projector and laptop. We can also get other equipment should you require same.
Enjoy invigorating hikes in the surrounding mountains, swim in the river or play in the rock pools, go fly-fishing, walking, bird watching, mountain biking, savour the scenery on our many 4 X 4 trails, enjoy a leisurely picnic beneath the willows down by the river, or you can simply put your feet up, relax and enjoy the splendour which the Southern Drakensberg has to offer
FLY-FISHING
Wild rainbow trout swimming side by side with elusive Yellow fish abound in the Bell River, making it a fly-fisherman’s paradise. Kinmel has its own stretch of the Bell River, specifically reserved for our guests only. The region also boasts a number of dams and more than 200km of rivers and crystal clear running water in which to cast your fly. Early mornings and late afternoons is the time to cast a line in a quiet pool, go bird watching or see the cows come in for milking
FARM ACTIVITIES
We also are a fully functional active farm where guests and especially children are invited to acquaint themselves with a variety of farm animals. We fully support the principles of Eco-tourism. Defined as "responsible travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of the local people”.
MOUNTAIN PASSES & 4 X 4 ing
The area boasts with the Naude’s Nek Pass, the highest mountain pass (gravel road) in South Africa. It is 2,500 m on the edge of the escarpment and at a point 21 km from Rhodes is 2,740 m above sea level. In addition there are seven other mountain passes which can be explored. All offering wonderful views, scenery and interesting bird life. The mountainous terrain offers the perfect backdrop for exciting 4 x 4 ing of all levels. We offer a variety of guided tours on private trails as well as public roads. From November through to February our alpine wild flowers are truly beautiful
SNOW
Winter time is snow time in Rhodes. We experience regular snow falls during the winter months, when our mountains are covered in snow. Kinmel Guest Farm is perfectly situated to stay over and use as a base for day visits to Tiffendell ski resort(if and when they are in operation).
OTHER
