About Kathu Inn
Kathu Inn is a recently renovated and newly opened establishment that is ideally situated in Kathu. Kathu is conveniently located in between Upington and Vryburg with about a two hour drive to each. Kimberley is a mere three hour drive away.
An engineer working in the town in the early 1990’s come up with the phrase ‘the town under the trees’. The meaning of the word ‘Katha’ has been attributed to a porridge brewed by the local population from the powder found in the pods of the Camel Thorn trees.
Each room contains either a double bed or twin single beds, an en-suite bathroom, a TV with DStv, tea and coffee-making facilities and air-conditioning. On-site parking is available. Wheelchair friendly rooms are available. Self catering rooms are available on request.
Food parcels for breakfast, lunch and dinner are available on request daily. While there isn't a restaurant on the premises there are several restaurants in the nearby area. Please note that Kathu Inn will be open 24 hours a day.
On the outskirts of Kathu is a unique setting in which to play a round of golf – the course winds its way through a 500 hectare Camelthorn forest on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Considering its surroundings, its lush green fairways and greens have surprised many a visitor to this arid region.
