Jembisa is an idyllic country house safari lodge within it’s own private game reserve at the heart of the beautiful Waterberg Plateau in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

We take only one booking at a time to provide you with an exclusive holiday and ensure that your stay is tailormade to your requirements. It is perfect for family safaris or small groups of friends looking to experience true African hospitality and wildlife in a private, luxury safari lodge set within a private game reserve.

An exclusive booking policy means that guests have the lodge and reserve entirely to themselves. Children of all ages are welcome and it has proven to be an exceptional family safari destination. An additional advantage is that it is in a malaria-free area. It is also popular with small groups traveling together, safari weddings and tutored painting safaris. All guests are looked after extremely attentively by the staff.

Game Lodge Accommodation


Built originally as a family home, Jembisa has a wonderful atmosphere of relaxation and comfort. The lodge is built from local stone and thatch with large, spacious rooms decorated with natural materials in an Afro-colonial style.

There are five luxury en-suite bedrooms, three with private balconies and a single / children’s bunk room. Having been a family home, Jembisa benefits from some extras not usually found at safari lodges, for example a library, reading room, games room and tennis court.

Arrangements are flexible to suit each party’s needs. Bunk beds and cots for children are available. All bathrooms have both a shower and a bath.

Palala River Cottages (Self catering)


River Cottage
River Cottage, is an isolated cottage set in a beautiful spot, often visited by our resident rhino, and is right next to the Palala river. Perfect for a couple, the cottage sleeps two people (fixed double bed) with mosquito netting.

It has a bathroom with bath and shower, lounge with fireplace and fully kitted kitchen. Towels and linen are provided.

Podica Chalets
Escape to the wilds. The three Podica chalets are situated together in a quiet spot next to the Palala River are fully equipped, en-suite thatched Rondawels.

The chalets have an open plan living area with bed(s), table and kitchenette. Each has a separate bathroom with bath, and an outside shower.

Relax in a hammock, walk, enjoy game viewing or watching the abundant bird life and cool off under your private bush shower.

Each chalet is slightly different:
Podica 1 has a double bed
Podica 2 has a double bed and twin beds, in the same room
Podica 3 has a double bed and fold down sofa bed which sleeps one, or two children, in the same room.

Towels and bed linen are provided.

Kingfisher Cottage
Kingfisher Cottage sleeps a maximum of 10 people in 3 twin rooms and 2 double rooms. Ideal for small groups or families. Sit on the veranda with wide views across the Palala River to the far hills.

The cottage has a comfortable living area with a fireplace place and dining table. There is also a swimming pool for your enjoyment, a braai and it is fully serviced.

FACILITIES


Whether guests wish to relax in style or be more active, there are a host of options available at Jembisa. They can swim or relax by the natural saltwater pool, play a game of tennis on the floodlit court or for extra relaxation opt for a massage either in the privacy of their bedroom or on the secluded deck overlooking the river.

CUISINE


Our chef will prepare delicious meals for you. Local, fresh ingredients are used when in season including those from our own large, organic kitchen garden. Please let us know of any special dietary needs or preferences in advance. Meals are varied affairs and may include picnics in the bush, dinner under the stars, lunch on the terrace, and al fresco breakfasts and brunches. A wide range of beverages are available and wines are quality South African estate wines.

WEDDINGS


Jembisa has hosted some beautiful bush weddings. As every wedding is such a personal experience we will liaise closely with you to meet your individual needs and requirements. We are able to host weddings with up to 50 guests and can arrange and provide the ingredients necessary for an exceptional, memorable wedding day. All details will be carefully planned from the ceremony, flowers, decoration, guest accommodation, wedding banquet, reception, etc. We even have the most romantic and secluded honeymoon cottage.

ACTIVITIES


Game drives are in 4x4 open landrovers with highly trained and experienced rangers. Night drives provide the opportunity of seeing the nocturnal animals such as leopard, brown hyena, aardvark, civets and porcupines. Bush walks are always fascinating and guests may experience the thrill of walking with rhino. There is an option of camping out for a night under canvas, getting closer to nature and waking with the African dawn. Visit Bushman Paintings and archaeological sites, the reserve has been home to many people over time and there are Stone Age, early and late Iron Age sites and bushman paintings.

There are also lots of interesting things to do in the surrounding area; horse riding for the novice to the experienced rider, elephant-back safaris, a visit to the Rhino and Waterberg cultural museum where guests can hand-feed an orphan rhino, excursions to Big 5 Reserves, visit to local African art and curio shops and scenic helicopter flights. Transfers can be arranged by air or road.
