A stone's throw from the cliff paths overlooking Walker Bay, is House on Westcliff.
This boutique Bed and Breakfast has six charming rooms furnished with eclectic African and European design combining the best of antiquity with modern comfort and features. Exclusive, thatched en suite rooms are spacious in layout with individual furnishings, and offer the discerning guest comfort and privacy. All rooms have individual entrances which open out onto the garden.
Each room has a flat screen television, free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities and bar-fridge.
The spacious lounge is like a gallery in which original South African art adorning the walls combines with comfortable furnishing to give each guest a warm welcoming feeling. The selection of books and records add to the ambiance of warmth and comfort.
The garden is characterized by its indigenous trees. The solar heated salt pool is framed by Norfolk pines on one side and a thatched gazebo on the other. The whole garden is framed by trees and shrubs and is a haven of peace and tranquility.
The sumptious breakfasts are served daily in the dining room which adjoins the lounge. Both rooms are under thatch and look out onto a lush garden through big glass doors.
The 12km long cliff paths beginning at our guest house command a dramatic view of the Southern Right whales who visit annually to breed and calve in the waters below.
The cliff paths run spectacularly along the length of the coastline and while this famous path has been hailed as the best land-based whale watching site in the world, boat-based whale watching excursions give an even closer look. For a birds-eye view of these gentle giants, take a flight in a small plane piloted by one of Hermanus's well known characters. He is the one who from his plane counts the whales every season and provides statistics of the growing number of these mammals. A helicopter flight is as well available.
Nature lovers will delight in the spectacular display of Fynbos. This is our coastal mountain flora found along the paths as well as in the Nature reserves which surround Hermanus. Fernkloof Nature Reserve is a showcase of the Cape's endemic floral kingdom.
Numerous art galleries give you the opportunity to glimpse South African art at its best. There are many original boutiques which lend themselves to an excellent shopping experience. Rustic craft and food markets give Hermanus a very special flavour.
Dining in Hermanus is very special. A wide variety of restaurants presents you with a wide choice of cuisine and dishes. Among the restaurants you will find local, Japanese, Italian, Continental, Cuban and typical South African steakhouses. Of course everywhere there is fresh fish and seafood on the menu. Hermanus is a real fisherman’s village with many touches of the state of the art. Our coffee shops are among the best in South Africa.
House on Westcliff enjoys a peaceful, green setting not far from the harbour. The beautiful cliff path nature reserve leads to the centre of town following the edge of the ocean. It is a 2 km beautiful walk to the city centre and a five-minute drive. This is your gateway to the myriad of pleasures Hermanus has to offer: land- or boat-based whale watching, spectacular nature hikes, pristine beaches, world-class golf courses, great white shark diving, ocean cruises, vineyard tours and superb cuisine.
We look forward to your visit and we will endeavour to make the most out of your stay at House on Westcliff in Hermanus. Make us your next holiday destination.
Children over 10 are welcome. We offer a safe off street parking and credit card facilities.
