About Hillston Farm
Welcome to Hillston Farm! We invite you to experience true escape at Hillston Farm, a place of quiet beauty and glorious views. Experience genuine, warm Karoo hospitality with a difference.
Hillston Farm is an AA Highly Recommended Karoo farm providing accommodation either in a quaint ironstone cottage, built in the late 1800’s or in our remote country house. Meals are served in the farmhouse dining room or al fresco in the expansive garden. You can also do your own cooking in your fully equipped kitchen or enjoy a braai in the lapa or outside.
The AA Highly Recommended Hillston ironstone cottage was built in the late 1800's. Previous generations have used the cottage to house managers and governesses and 60 years ago it was even used as a school, which all the neighboring farms’ children attended.
The cottage has three bedrooms, a bathroom with bath and shower and separate toilet. All six beds have woolen duvets, electric blankets and luxurious bath sheets. There is an open plan kitchen, dining room and family lounge with under-floor heating. The kitchen is fully equipped for self - catering with stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron and breakfast counter.
Relax on the front veranda and watch the sun set with the guinea fowl and hadeda signaling the end of the day or have breakfast at the wooden combo set. Enjoy a braai in our Boer War Blockhouse lapa or outside in the garden (first bag of wood provided). From the garden a pathway leads down to an irrigation dam with a jetty and paddle boat. Children must be supervised.
Ample parking is available and there is a laundry service available on request.
Meals can also be provided by our on-site Cordon Bleu Chef if required eg: breakfast, brunch, lunch, high tea, dinner or a picnic basket.
Hillston also offers catering for weddings, conferences, special events and tour groups. The kitchen caters for up to 120 people. You can also take home some Karoo cooking secrets: we offer hands on Karoo cooking classes or demonstrations by our very own Cordon Bleu trained chef.
Pause for a moment and experience true farm life: milk a cow, touch a sheep, feed a chicken or ride a horse.Hillston's diverse landscape provides a range of adventure. Look out for springbuck, fallow deer, blesbuck, mountain rhebuck, antbears, porcupines and more.

Experience true peace as you hike through the Karoo Mountains and valleys, view more than 100 bird species including the black eagle, booted eagle, and all three korhaan species! Hundreds of flamingoes visit our farm dams in the summer – quite a site. Allow the Karoo air to refresh your senses as you cycle along the springbok trail. Our cycling or biking routes, all circular, follow serviced gravel roads up to 250km long in total. Clean clear skies allow excellent star gazing at night. We have a telescope with which you can inspect the moon’s magnificent craters.

All our shearing is done by hand. We also have a Boer War Blockhouse which has been converted into the braai lapa at the guest cottage. You can see where the bullet holes penetrated through the corrugated iron!
