About Hartfell

Set amongst rolling hills, forests and grasslands and near Dullstroom is the very scenic Hartfell farm. The farm offers lovely walks, views and 3 well stocked trout dams for fly-fishing.

The farm is split in half by the Kruisfontein Road. The top section is mainly grassland and the lower developed section is mainly forest. This creates a different ambience to most other venues in the area. We cater for both the family getaway with peace and privacy and for the keen fisherman.

Self Catering Accommodation

There are 2 charming, fully furnished self-catering cottages available, each with their own character to suit different tastes. Each cottage is completely separate and set in stands of very old oak and Blackwood trees and therefore very private.

Hartfell Cottage:
Is a spacious country farmhouse that opens out onto an expansive lawn, making it perfect for families. It has a lovely view of, and access to, one of the dams. The other large dams are within easy walking distance. It has three bedrooms (plus sleeper couch and bunk beds), two bathrooms, an open plan kitchen, dining room, pub and lounge area and an enormous fireplace for those misty days.

Searles Cottage:
Has magnificent views from its veranda of the valley and the small dam in front of it and is within easy walking distance of the other dams on the farm. Searles has lovely finishes, tiled floors through out and a fully fitted kitchen. There are three bedrooms (one en-suite with a King size bed, the other two have twin beds), two bathrooms, an open plan lounge / dining room and kitchen. The focal point is the beautiful stone fire place. Searles also has a fenced in garden area and dogs are welcome.

Hamill's Lodge:
Hamill's is a spacious, well furnished four bed-roomed unit. Each bedroom has a private entrance and all bedrooms are connected to each other and the central living area by the deck. Each bedroom has a bathroom en-suite and a sleeper couch so the lodge can sleep eight comfortably with an extra eight in sleeper couches. The central living area has a modern kitchen, a dining area and lounge centered around a lovely fireplace.

While the house is lovely, the specialness of Hamill's is the magnificent view of the valley and dam from the deck. Enjoy a braai or spend an evening watching the moon rise while sitting round the fire pit on the deck.

Activities and Attractions

There are various walks on the farm, notable the waterfall walk (to the base or to the top of the 30m fall, a river walk close to indigenous forest and the longer perimeter walks. These all offer something to bird enthusiasts, especially in the summer.

Parts of the Kruisfontein road are used for mountain bike races and joggers and mountain bikers alike enjoy the low traffic the road gets.

The area offers a wide variety of fauna and flora as a discussion with Piet, a nature enthusiast, will show. Fauna and flora include a number of nocturnal animals, interesting birds and several red data plant species.

Since the owners, Piet and Gill, are resident they are always available to help.

Being 11 km from Dullstroom ensures that guests may enjoy the tranquility and complete privacy on the farm and yet be close enough to Dullstroom with its great pubs and shops.
