About Gateside Guesthouse

Situated in peaceful Hilton village, Gateside Guesthouse is 10 km's from Pietermaritzburg's CBD and 10 minutes’ drive from Howick. Set in a quiet cul-de-sac with magnificent views of pastures, dam and our local Table Mountain. We are at the entrance to the Midlands Meander, close to the private schools of Hilton College, Ethams and St Anne's as well as Hilton Life Hospital. The guesthouse makes an ideal stopover for holidaymakers en route to the splendid Drakensberg Mountains or Durban's beautiful beaches, as we are midway between these two major tourist attractions.

Accommodation

The self-contained accommodation overlooks the spacious garden, large pool and country views.

Eight of the nine units are fully self-catered and one is semi self-catered. Facilities in the rooms include: panel heaters and wall fans, (or aircon), blankets, hairdryers, tea trays, DStv commercial bouquet, (or Netflix) and free Wi-Fi.

There are information folders giving places of interest, restaurants and activities in the area and there is also a selection of brochures to be found in the hallway of the main guesthouse.

The guesthouse is fully run by generator during power outages except between the hours of 22h00 and 06h00. The rooms are provided with a rechargeable light over these hours and we advise bringing your battery packs for phone charging or laptop function.

Dining

A full health and delicious, traditional English breakfast is served in the conservatory on the deck of the main house between the hours of 07h00 to 09h00. We also prepare prepacked breakfasts or health breakfast trays to your rooms for early starts – by prior arrangement.Full Continental breakfasts are also served (prebooked).

Delivery dinner trays to your room (2-course), can be ordered with 24-hours’ notice.

Additional Facilities

Other conveniences available are paid laundry service, braais / barbeques, pool towels. Children are welcome and there are the pool and trampoline to entertain them. Onsite parking with own gate access is provided. All credit cards accepted.

It has either a King-size double bed or twin single beds, sliding glass doors looking out at the lovely view. The ground floor of the cottage has a third bedroom with either King-size double bed or twin singles, sliding doors onto the deck with the view and across the passage is a bathroom with shower, not bath. The ground floor also has the open plan lounge / dining / kitchenette area with log fireplace, wall fans, ironing facility, DStv and sliding glass doors onto a spacious deck. The deck is partially closed in with blinds and an 8 seater outdoor dining area as well as an open area of deck with Weber braai and wonderful views.

It was a very beautiful stay. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We arrived late around 23:00 when check in was closed, but the owner directed us on what to do and where to via WhatsApp which was very helpful. The place is beautiful with a view of the Hilton mountains and pine trees. Will definitely recommend to friends and family... As well as visit again. Thank you.
