Hidden in a kloof of the Paardeberg Mountain is the magical Fynbos Estate - grape and olive farm, small winery, guest house, celebration and conference venue and nature reserve. Located 15 kms outside Malmesbury and just an hour from Cape Town, Fynbos Estate nestles amongst vineyards, olive trees and indigenous gardens and offers numerous spaces of tranquillity, simplicity and natural beauty.

Accommodation

Fynbos can sleep 16 people in the Victorian Farmhouse (circa 1900) , 8-12 in the modern farm style Fynbos House and 2-4 in the charming Fynbos Cottage. All houses are beautifully situated and comfortably appointed and guests can self cater, part cater or be fully catered for.

Facilities

Fynbos Estate offers a range of facilities for those staying on the farm. These include a raku fireplace in winter and a swimming pool under the mountain in summer, wine tasting and wine making, a large domestic library, satellite TV.

Exploration of the farm and mountain by foot give visitors a chance to enjoy virtually pristine fynbos vegetation and indigenous birds and animals. Cycling up the mountain road is a hit with the fit and a high clearance vehicle will take visitors up the mountain by road where they will be greeted by spectacular views from the top of Dragonridge and Sonkop.

Dining

Food is farm sourced and prepared with creativity and experience in a variety of styles. The farm is an ideal venue for getaways, family reunions, workshops and retreats as well as wedding and celebration weekends.

Conferences

With two function spaces each of which can take up to 80 people and various smaller meeting spaces, Fynbos estate is ideal for small groups wanting a residential conference and larger groups for day conferences. The food is delicious, the atmosphere relaxed and there are plenty of activities to intersperse with work sessions. We are also Wi Fi enabled for no extra cost.

Weddings and Celebrations

Fynbos Estate offers something quite unusual for weddings, celebrations. and celebratory weekends. Nestling beneath the mountains and surrounded by countryside, this special place offers a personal and intimate venue for your marriage with no stinting on quality yet without a commercial feel. And there is plenty of space for a good party too.

For the reception we can accommodate up to 80 under cover in the magical pavilion with its gentle views of mountain and valley. Alternatively you can celebrate among the birds and flowering shrubs under the hundred year-old oaks. For parties little can compare with the pavilion, its wooden floors made for dancing and its awnings adjustable for all weather. At night the stars cluster above and candle lanterns light the gardens and pool.

We offer only one event a day so you won’t be rushed or have to share the space with any other booking. Food is Johan’s passion and ingredients are farm grown or sourced wherever possible and tailored to your taste. This is whether it is a spit braai, an Indian feast or Mediterranean country cooking. Wine comes from Dragonridge Winery - which is part of Fynbos Estate - and is delicious

Dragonridge Winery

Made under the Dragonridge label, our wines are handcrafted in the old traditional way mostly from Rhone cultivars grown on the farm. Winemaking getaways during February and March involve groups of friends or colleagues in the making of the wine hands on. Wines have done well and are available from the farm ore delivered in the Cape Town vicinity (free of charge) and elsewhere in the country with delivery costs.

All in all, Fynbos Estate is a very special but unpretentious place of great beauty. It offers wonderful food and wine, comfortable accommodation and a relaxed and easy atmosphere. We are also committed to keeping our prices reasonable.
