About Elbow's Rest Self Catering
Established in 1999, Elbow's Rest Self Catering, is situated in the Hilton Village, which is noted for its healthy climate and of course its all year greenery of forests and gardens. This fast exciting growth area is conveniently placed to serve the many needs of the KZN Capital, Pietermaritzburg and the surrounding Midlands countryside.
Our concept of three spacious self catering units, with accommodation for family, business, school functions and the great annual sporting arenas and events of the area, make it an ideal accommodation venue.
Self Catering Accommodation
Our three well equipped and comfortable self catering units are away from the main house, each one with its own entrance. Although the units are separate, they can be linked through the small enclosed well fenced braai garden patio areas, should a group wish to be together, - but remain private. We offer combinations of accommodation options.
Our Family Unit can sleep 4 persons, king size bed downstairs and 2 beds in a small upstairs loft, while the other two offer 2 and 3 bedroom options. The small kitchens are each well equipped. Each unit has a DSTV hospitality bouquet. There are showers en-suite. The units are warm with electric blankets and heaters for cold winter nights, as well as a fan for the warm summer days. The units are serviced daily (except for Sundays and Public Holidays). Our laundry service is available at a small extra charge. Parking is covered,on site and secure and accessed is via a remote controlled gate. Pets and children are always welcome.
Activities and Attractions
The schools of the area, St Anne's College, Hilton College, Michaelhouse, Cowan House and Grace College are all situated in the area and combined with the famous public schools of Pietermaritzburg Girls' High and Maritzburg College make this a profound Educational centre of the country. The Cedara Agricultural College is also close at
hand. Their presence in the academic and sporting fields and Inter Provincial and National events make a big demand on accommodation in the area.
Annual National Mountain and Road Biking events, as well as the Midmar Mile and Comrades Marathon and Canoeing events all take place in the proximity. The Midlands Meander for tourists is well documented and quite special, offering a variety of attractions to suit all tastes.
The Howick and Karkloof Falls are quite spectacular in summer and the Midmar Dam is a favourite water sports and picnic spot. On a clear day, the Drakensberg Mountain Range can be seen from Hilton. The many attractions in the villages nestled in the Berg are an easy hour and a half drive from Hilton. Elbow's Rest is only 1.5kms off the N3 Highway joining Gauteng and the port of Durban, so we are an ideal stopover en route.
