Welcome to Dunelm Gasteplaas on SA-Venues.com, offering accommodation in Clarens, Thabo Mofutsanyana.

Dunelm Gasteplaas, an owner managed guest farm, offers a charming mixture of very old and very new luxurious, graceful Free State country living. Dunelm is being developed on a working game farm to high and exacting standards, with accommodation, catering facilities and recreational opportunities in a stunning setting.

The guest farm is being developed in stages and once finished, during 2012, will comprise the following in extensive gardens on the main farm yard: the fully restored majestic manor house, four self-contained guest cottages, the communal games room, tuck shop and, for private functions, a charming 100 seater chapel in the remodelled, erstwhile milk shed and a well-appointed 200 seater function and conference centre with full catering facilities.

Some distance away the camping site is taking shape at the game camp. Fishing in the large dam at the foot of the huge sandstone cliffs is an alternative or in addition to well demarcated long and short hiking trails.

Self Catering Accommodation

Accommodation presently available are four brand new identical self-catering cottages for discerning guests. Each cottage consists of two en suite double bedrooms, a large open plan living room comprising lounge, dining area and kitchen, a large stoep with a built-in braai and an under cover carport. The bedrooms and bathrooms have under-tile heating, the bathrooms heated towel railsand large gas-fired fireplace.

Great care has gone into appointing the cottages with high class fixtures, fittings, furniture, appliances, utensils, crockery, cutlery and linen, to ensure guests enjoy outstanding living conditions. The flat-screen TV in the lounge, braai on the stoep and dining suite are conducive to relaxed living and conviviality.

Accommodation under construction is presently taking place at the manor house. The stately dwelling, more than a century old, is being lovingly restored to its former glory and will have, in addition to six glorious en suite double staterooms on the ground floor and in the loft, an enormous public lounge, office facilities, dining room and kitchen. Upper class furnishings will be augmented with classical antique pieces to recreate bygone times. A tuck shop offering special treats, some produced on Dunelm, will be located here as well.

Camping

A camping site with 16 luxury stands, each with its own power connection, ablutions and kitchenette, is being erected in a scenic setting next to the game camp. Campers can enjoy a quiet stay in the secluded area, while watching the game go by: eland, njala, zebra, waterbuck, rhebuck, red hartebeest and other indigenous game.

Functions

The chapel will emerge, once the manor house is done, from what used to be a huge milk shed, originally built in grand style with sand stone, superior building material and its own corner stone dated 1908. Refitted with stained glass windows, pulpit and seating for 100 persons, it will provide a fitting backdrop for joyous ceremonies of all kinds.

Simultaneously and adjacent, the 200 seater function and conference centre, with an elaborate games room on a lower level, will be erected to cater for weddings, family gatherings, seminars, etc. The centre will have its own bar, kitchen, storage rooms and furniture for all occasions.

The chapel and the centre are to be joined by the bell arch where the custom cast Dunelm bell will hang, to be rung on festive occasions.

activities and attractions

Fishermen can enjoy their favourite pass-time and fish for rainbow trout, yellow-fish and carp in the easily accessible three hectare dam fed by a perennial stream, surrounded by large shady trees under huge sand stone cliffs.

Walking trails criss-cross the farm, varying from easy strolls to challenging climbs, taking in on the way, amongst others, the overhanging cliffs, waterfall, poplar forest, beautiful San rock art, the Surrender Hill Boer War memorial and, for the sentimentally inclined, the two well kept graveyards.

Less energetic visitors are free to go on game viewing drives, or just to relax in the gardens or the veld.

If the above is still not enough, Clarens and Fouriesburg, with all their worldly attractions, are 17 km away, but in different directions.
